  1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development • Keeping safe on Bonfire Night. What should we wear? Using sparklers, staying away from the bonfire, staying close to grown ups. • Circle times – what would you pack to take to space with you? Who helps us? • SEAL unit – Getting on and Falling out. • Celebrations – Christmas, Diwali – festivals of light. How do people celebrate Christmas? (RE unit) • Communication, Language and Literacy • Letters and sounds – phase 2 – learning tricky words, I no, go to, the. Learning remaining letter sounds and blending sounds together to form words. Begin phase 3 – j, v, w, x,z,y,qu, sh, ng, ch, th. • Whatever next story – role play. • Fireworks sounds – whizz, zoom, pop, bang, crackle, etc... • Writing class firework poem. • Rhyming words. • Role play area – rocket and moon. • Non-fiction books about the moon, space, planets. • Creating class fact book. • Writing list – what would you take into space? • Writing words and sentences using known letter sounds. • Space stories – man on the moon, aliens love underpants. • Nativity story. • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy • Counting backwards – launching rockets.. • Space races – ordinal numbers 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. • Counting out accurate sets. Using stars. • Introduce adding – combining of sets. Working out totals. • Shapes – 2D and 3D making rockets. Describing shapes used. Naming some 3D shapes. • Time – day/night. Days of the week. • Measuring rockets. Ordering heights. Using mathematical language – high, low, taller, shorter, heavier, lighter. • Singing number songs – 5 little men in a flying saucer. • Measuring Christmas presents – length and weight. Learn the rhyme: Remember, Remember... • What do we already know about the moon? Who was the first person on the moon? How long does it take to get there? • What do we know about Space? How do people travel into space? Rocket launches – video. • Living in space – eating, drinking, sleeping. Life as an astronaut. Watching videos on the internet. (ICT) • Light and Dark – Night and Day. What are the differences? • Shadows. Creating a light show. How can we change light? (Interest table) • Celebrating Christmas – The First Christmas. • Creative Development • Blow painting – firework pictures. Add glitter. • Making own galaxies from outer space. • Building rockets (junk modelling) • Instrument sounds – fireworks. • Paper mache planets. • Use of texture – creating giant moon. • Making own galaxies in outer space – spiders webs – outdoor activity. • Singing songs related to space – adding instrument sounds. • Design own aliens from outer space! • Christmas crafts – cards etc. • Physical Development • Acting like fireworks outside – sounds and actions. • Begin every morning handwriting practice. – Following and tracing patterns. • Pencil control and grip. • Dance unit – Space dance – rockets, landing on the moon, walking on the moon. • Fine motor activities – threading, pegs, cutting and sticking etc. • Bikes and trikes outside.
