Hulphonden zijn professioneel opgeleide honden die mensen met een beperking meer vrijheid en een zelfstandiger leven geven. Bijvoorbeeld mensen met een visuele of lichamelijke handicap, chronische ziekten of handicaps. Ze kunnen ook fungeren als metgezellen voor tieners en volwassenen. De hulphond die bij velen het bekendst is, is de blindengeleidehond. Er zijn echter veel soorten hulp- en assistentiehonden.
