  1. Is Macrame Still Popular for Wall Hangings? Macrame, being a French word, unsurprisingly comes from France. The traditional spelling actually puts an accent over the E the end, but typing that on a normal keyboard is nigh impossible. So, this used to be a rather popular art form and approach to sewing/crocheting/knitting in the olden days. A lot of people have antique blankets, doilies, curtains or wall hangings made in the macrame style which are now family heirlooms. Their grandmothers, great-grandmothers, etc. made them, and while dated, they are still cherished. Macrame had a revival in its popularity in the 1960s and 70s, being very popular among the modernist hippie and new age people of the time. This was forsaken for neon and bright colors by the 80s, and hasn’t really been a main element in fashion and decor since. But, you may be wondering if a macrame wall hanging in AUwould be particularly easy to find, and still fashionable. Well, at the end of the day, fashion is subjective, and you don’t necessarily have to follow popular, establish trends of the time. For example, I tend to prefer very 1980s styled furniture, floor plans and general aesthetic in my home. Others may prefer an even more retro look, or something of a more ethnic or exotic approach. It’s really all about what you personally find appealing and comforting. If you like macrame, you can find a large macrame wall hanging that will fit your needs with some simple searching.

  2. Fueling the small creative market… When it comes to something like this, you can buy it from a large company, but if you actually shop around locally in Australia, you will find a great many artists trying to sell their creations, often having a hard time making ends meet due to a lack of visibility. A lot of them make things that would be considered outdated or not trendy by today’s standards, including something like a large macrame wall hanging. When you want to buy something like this, you would be doing society a favor, and yourself a favor by going through a local artist or creator. How are you doing yourself a favor? It will be better quality than a manufactured facsimile, it will last longer and, whether you believe it or not, you will cherish it more as it’s somebody’s actual creation. Material matters! Another example of why you want to go through a local designer creator to find a macrame wall hanging in AUis that they will use superior materials. Manufacturers that make home decoration things like this will use the cheapest possible materials, so they won’t last very long. A local creator will use high-quality materials that are resistant to fading, stains and general wear. You will be able to keep these macrame wall hangings for years to come, and they can become heirlooms even if no one in your family made them.

  3. And the end, it doesn’t matter whether macrame is still popular or not, if you like the look of it, find a local creator in your region of Australia and buy one that makes you smile.
