  1. IELTS Reading Test Tips

  2. IELTS Reading Tips • IELT is a very important exam, whether it is for studying abroad in an English speaking country. So, one should take this exam very seriously and put in the utmost effort in preparing for and in attempting this crucial exam. • One of the trickiest sections in this exam is the reading section. Many people find this section quite challenging as it is very different from anything they have attempted before because of its structure.

  3. IELTS Reading Tips • So, here are some important tips to help you ease the process of attempting this particular section. • Reading in IELTS can be little dry and of very high quality; and if your English is not really that good, it can scare you a bit. But, this is where you have to control your emotions and tell yourself that the passage you are reading is really interesting and you really like it, as you are gaining a lot from it. This positive attitude can really work wonders and you will be able to attempt the questions better. • Initially, read the passage quite fast and try not to understand all the words and details of the passage; rather try to get the overall gist and flow of the passage. You should read the passage in 4-5 minutes, just to get the general idea of the passage; In other words, just skim it.

  4. IELTS Reading Tips • You may just glance at the type of question types each passage has and try to do the heading type questions first in reading; if no heading questions are there, do the question type you find the easiest first. • Underline the important (Key) words in the question before searching for answers in the passage. • Remember! In reading, answers for question types such as Yes/No/Not Given, True/False/ Not Given, Short Question and Answers, MCQ’s, Fill in the blanks, labelling will usually come in sequence in the passage. But, answers to question like, Headings, Info Location, Summary, and Matching will not be in sequence.

  5. IELTS Reading Tips • In case you are not sure of an answer, attempt it anyway: try not to leave blanks; if you are lucky, the attempted answer may be right and you will get a mark. And anyway, wrong answers do not have any negative marks. So, go for it! • When filling a table, look at the sample answers given and fill the answers accordingly. • Practice a lot! Especially if you are not doing too well in the reading section, it will surely help you improve your scores by leaps and bounds.

  6. IELTS Reading Tips • Even if you think you know the answer to a question, do go back and relook at the statement in the passage to confirm and then only write your answer. • Do not get fooled by exact words in the answer options as in the passages, they may not be the right answers. Rather, try to comprehend the meaning of the sentences and find the answers. • Remember! For fill in the blanks, if the answer options are not given, then, you have to fill the words exactly as they are given in the passage, but, if the answer options are given, they will not be given exactly as they are in the passage, rather, the synonyms of the words in the passage will be given. • Source:- http://www.article.org.in/article.php?id=50486
