  2. STANDARD LANGUAGE • A Standard language is a special dialect of some language which has been codified and elaborated for use in variety of domains (prof. RL Trask). • In 21st century, standard language refers to the language which is spoken in the capital areas of the country and is also participated by the majority of the educated section of the society.

  3. ROLE OF STANDARD LANGUAGE • It serves many roles especially in the middle class section of the society as it becomes the most popular and acceptable medium of instruction from news to profession. • According to McArthur – “Standard language is a term for the form of language used for example, in general publishing ,the news media, education, government and other such profession and specially by the middle classes”.

  4. HOME LANGUAGE • Home language ( or the variety of language ) that is most commonly spoken by the members of the family for everyday interaction at the home. • Home language is also called as the family language or the language of the home. • It is sometimes also used synonymously with “mother tongue”.

  5. ROLE OF HOME LANGUAGE • An individual gets entry into the social life or society by interaction with others through this language. • Forms the backbone of ethnic identity of a religion. • Enables one to spontaneously participate in the socio cultural belief of society.
