  1. Blog2: Gielgaragedoors.com CLEANING YOUR CANVAS AWNINGS A vibrant canvas awning adds a sense of class and elegance aesthetically to the exterior of your house. But being outside, it has to go through things like fungus, bird droppings and environmental effects like moisture that can stain them with mildew. These effects, if not taken care of, can prove to be harmful to the fabric of your canvas awning and can even wreck it. Therefore, it is very important to clean your awning from time to time. Follow the steps listed below: Take a bucket of water. Add about 3 ounces of some mild laundry soap like the one that is used for washing delicate clothing or baby clothes. Use of detergent is strictly prohibited. Stir and mix the soap with the water till it forms a good volume of lather. Use a ladder to reach the awning. Use a rough cloth or a household broom to wipe of the dust, cobwebs and all kinds of stuff sticking to it. With the help of a garden hose, wet down a convenient portion of the awning. Place the bucket with soap lather within easy reach. Now use a stiff brush to scrub the awning by dipping it into the soap solution from time to time. Apply the brush in a circular motion, this helps to easily scrape of the sticky matter. But do not let the soap dry, otherwise, it will just add on to your work in order to remove it. Rinse off the soap solution with the garden hose and let the awning dry up.
