  2. With aging, senior dogs are prone to some common health problems. The following are some significant health issues noticed among older dogs: Dental and Gum Diseases Periodontitis, lost or broken teeth, damaged dental structure, and oral issues are common among senior dogs. Blindness Loss of vision may occur among senior dogs due to tissue degeneration in their eyes. Hearing Loss As the dog ages, it may lose its hearing capabilities up to various levels. Arthritis Wearing away the cartilage across joints and loss of lubrication may lead to osteoarthritis and other joint-related issues among senior dogs.

  3. Obesity As the dog ages, it may put on weight. Obesity may be the root cause of many other health issues. Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome Senior dogs may experience confusion and disorientation. They may bark and whine excessively and feel lost in a familiar place. Diabetes Lack of physical activity and dysfunction of the pancreas may raise blood sugar levels among senior dogs. Chronic Kidney Disease With aging, senior dogs may face chronic kidney disease. Though kidney disease cannot be cured entirely, you can manage your dog’s well-being. Heart Disease Accumulation of fluid in the heart, lungs, and chest cavity due to insufficient blood pumping may lead to heart disease among older dogs. Cancer Older dogs are more prone to get lumps and bumps. Take your senior dog for regular cancer screening and checkups to monitor their health.
