  1. Life Cycle Of Lyme Disease

  2. ABOUT Lyme disease is a zoonotic disease caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. It is transmitted by an infected Blacklegged or deer tick (Ixodes scapularis). Let's understand the tick's lifecycle to reduce the risk of Lyme disease:

  3. 1.Questing Ticks lay an egg in spring, after the female completes their three years of adult life span. Female ticks detach from the hosts & lay eggs in leaf bush, leaf litter, grass tips, etc.

  4. 2. Early Life Cycle Blacklegged ticks are found in marshes, woods, grass & shrubs, and letch on a host in a questing position. Ticks find a feeding spot and bite from ten minutes to two hours, causing the vector-borne disease.

  5. 3. Larvae Stage Eggs hatch to the larvae with six- legged; infection transforms from adult ticks to the egg through transovarial transmission. Larvae also absorb pathogens from the infectious host and can carry transstadial transmission.

  6. 4. NYMPH STAGE Larvae fall to the ground once the feeding cycle ends and molt to the next lifestyle-nymph. Eight-legged Nymphs are primarily active in temperatures above 37 degrees Fahrenheit, causing the ailment.

  7. 5. Adult Tick Before drumming to the adult transformation, the nymph feeds on the host for four to five days and drops off. After retreating to the final host as a blood meal, adult ticks start mating, males die after mating, and the female dies after laying eggs.

  8. 6. HOSTS TO COMPLETE THE STAGES Completing the entire life cycle requires up to 3 years, and for progress to the next stage, they feed on hosts. Ticks prevention vaccines are vital, and ticks found on your pet should be promptly removed to prevent transmission of Lyme disease.
