  2. No one likes exercise when you are told to exercise. However, some studies are suggesting that slightly challenging aerobic exercises - such as swimming strokes, changing incline and speed on a treadmill, and somersaults in the water if you're particularly comfortable in a pool - will help to reduce stiffness. • The reason that it's supposed to be an aerobic exercise is because aerobic involves oxygen. It willhelpget oxygen to where it is most needed - and the science of why that involves your cells. Oxygen is required to allow your mitochondria to make the energy your body needs. Without oxygen, your cells will produce lactic acid, which makes your muscles stiff and sore.

  3. The question of when to exercise is something that will vary greatly from person to person. One of the best times to exercise is about an hour after you take your medications. However, depending on how powerful your treatment is, that could change. If you are still unsure of when to exercise, you should do it when your mobility is best. For one patient, that could be at ten in the morning while another could be five in the evening. • There are tips to keep in mind about what kind of exercises to do, how to do them, and why you would do them. To begin with, you are trying to reduce the stiffness in your muscles, so you should pick something that is challenging.

Exercises that are good for this purpose are: • Rising and sitting in a chair repeatedly • Ankle and wrist weights during walks around the house or outside • Wall or regular push-ups if your arms are stiff • Anything in a standing position for your legs • Dancing • Using a walking stick on a hike • Yoga or Tai Chai classes • Marching to music and swinging arms while • Walking outside or in a mall

  5. There are also exercises you should not try for this stiffness. They include: • Lap swimming • Weight lifting • Stationary bicycle riding without doing other exercises • Slow walks on a treadmill

  6. If patients are unsure of how to make the exercise fun and uplifting, instead of only feeling like its work, there are many ways to do so. They include: • Making friends in class if taking yoga or Tai Chai • Listen to music • Change it up • Work out where you feel comfortable • Working out with friends • Stiffness with Parkinson's should consider doing exercise part of their daily routine if they face daily stiff muscles.
