  1. JLL Painting Interior and Exterior Painting Contractor Top 4 Tips: Choosing The Right Painter So, you just got several bids to repaint your home and you notice that the prices are all over the map. Some prices are even half that of others! What gives? When hiring a contractor, it is common to encounter a confusing disparity of prices, and it may be that there are true bargains to be found, but more often than not, really low prices mean really low value. So, evaluate all bids carefully, but scrutinize carefully those that are suspiciously low. With that in mind, let's look at a nearly fool-proof approach to hiring the best contractor: 1. References. Ask for them and use them! Make a list of questions and follow-up with these references; ask questions and listen carefully to the answers, they will be very revealing. Next, get in your car, and visit at least one recently completed project to inspect the contractor's finish work. If you find paint spattered on the plants, disqualify the bidder. 2. Reputation. Check with the local paint store and ask about reputability of the contractors bidding on your project. If a contractor is well established they will be well known at their local paint store. 3. Appearances. Judge them - you are hiring a professional whose business is to pay attention to details, so details matter, a lot. A contractor who doesn't make the effort to make an excellent impression is unlikely to produce results that make an excellent impression. 4. Communication. This is so very important. A professional contractor should communicate effectively and respectfully; proposals should be well detailed and include a step-by-step description of labor and a list of all products that will be used on your project. If a contractor hands you a proposal that skips over key details, they either do not intend to include them or do not pay attention to details. Either way, a proposal to lacks details promises to deliver less.
