What the BLEEP is CBDA

CBDA is the new player in town that has everyone talking about its benefits. CBDA has been on researcher's radar since it was first isolated by Israeli scientist Rafael Mechoulam in 1965, but only recently has made its way to the front of the class. 1. What the {BLEEP} is CBDA? Welcome to Your Introduction to CBDA CBDA is the new player in town that has everyone talking about its benefits. CBDA has been on researchers radar since it was first isolated by Israeli scientist Rafael Mechoulam in 1965, but only recently has made its way to the front of the class. CBDA or cannabidiolic acid is the carboxylated form of CBD. But wait, no one expects the non-chemist population to know what that actually means. We’ll save you the “google” and offer up a backstory that you can digest, regardless of your high school chemistry grade. (Whew.) What is CBDA? CBDA is essentially the acidic precursor to CBD originating from the raw hemp plant. CBDA’s structure has a carboxyl group that consists of one carbon, hydrogen and two oxygen atoms. How is CBDA different from CBD? After a process called decarboxylation, the CBDA is converted to CBD. Decarboxylating is the process of releasing carbon dioxide to remove that acid (the “A” in CBDA). Any contact that CBDA has with UV light, heat and air enhances decarboxylation and ultimately leads to the birth of cannabidiol (CBD). This decarboxylation step occurs when the plant is growing and takes a lot of time, although it can also be recreated in the laboratory. CBDA, on the other hand, does not go through this process and therefore, brings a different set of properties to the table (and your wellness regimen).

  2. Now that we are all caught up on some of the baseline definitions, let’s explore CBDA and its benefits a bit deeper. CBDA is new to the scene but catching the attention of those paying attention in the hemp and CBD industries because it has much to offer. While studies are still in the infancy stage, even preliminary studies, are showing vast potential for CBDA as related to treating inflammation, anxiety, seizures and even certain types of cancer. CBDA is now seen as the next frontier in cannabinoid-based therapy. While studies are at early stages, CBDA benefits and results are promising in the following areas: •Anti-nausea conditions such as post-chemotherapy –Studies found that the effects of even a low dose of CBDA and ondansetron, an anti-nausea drug improved the drug’s antiemetic effect by 1000 times that of CBD. •Anti-inflammation– In 2008, researchers started to record that CBDA had a similar structure to commonly-used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), i.e. acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Studies showed that CBDA inhibits COX-2, the same body chemical that is inhibited by NSAIDs without the detriment to the stomach and digestive organs that can occur with long-term use of NSAIDs. •Multitude of additional benefitsstemming from CBDA’s affinity to serotonin receptors that helps it affect mood regulation and serotonin levels, intestinal motility, tumor growth and prevention and more. In fact, CBDA has been shown to have a more intense activation of 5-HT1A serotonin receptors compared to CBD.

  3. The legalities of CBDA – If you live in a state where cannabis is legal for recreational use, CBDA would be legally sold over the counter. CBDA is available in all 50 states; however, depending on what state you’re in, the preparation may or may not contain THC. Using CBDA– CBDA is typically consumed orally via gummy or tincture, in a similar fashion as you may have already experienced with CBD. Keep in mind that most cannabis products contain relatively low levels of CBDA. Hemp plants, on the other hand, are known for their high-CBDA content. For this reason, It’s important to have a clear insight into the ingredients of any CBDA product you consume to ensure that you are getting the purest ingredients with the most effective levels of CBDA. Recent developments and studies around CBDA have brought into the spotlight and the news about its benefits will surely continue to fill our news feeds. It is showing tremendous potential in alleviating symptoms and treating conditions such as anxiety, nausea, and vomiting, epilepsy and cancer. These promising results indicate that it could lead to even stronger benefits than CBD in some cases. Haygood Farms is proud to announce that it will be adding a line of CBDA products to its already rich and robust lineup of products from Delta 8 to CBD to Delta 9. Watch this space for more information about our upcoming product line. But, don’t worry, we’ll be sure to keep you posted and up to date on all our news. Start shopping.
