  1. ICSI Fertility Treatment –One Step at a Time! Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection or ICSI fertility treatment is an assisted reproductive technique that is recommended for those who suffer from male infertility issues including low sperm count. This practice may be used alongside IVF treatment. The misconception that the success of fertility depends solely on the quality of the egg cells has been debunked. Fertility doctors have clarified that both women and men can suffer from this problem. Low sperm production, abnormal sperm function, poor motility, low sperm concentration, and other related issues need attention, too. The good news is that there is now an assisted reproductive method that addresses this problem, and it’s called ICSI fertility treatment. But how exactly does it work? What makes it different from others? And what are its advantages? Difference from traditional IVF In regular IVF treatment, the female's egg and the male's sperm cells are placed in a petri dish for fertilisation. The process is quite different with ICSI fertility treatment. This time, the sperm is directly injected into the egg to increase the chances of success. Choosing single strongest sperm cell The process starts with an embryologist scrutinising sperm cells at a microscopic level, and then selecting the strongest and fittest sperm cell to use for fertilization. Minimising the risk of failure Thehealthiest and most viable sperm cell that was collected will then be injected directly into the female's egg. Because of this, there is a higher chance of fertilization. The process eliminates the risk of the sperm failing to penetrate the cytoplasm (the egg’s outer layer). When the eggs are fertilised and cultured in about five days, the embryo will then be implanted into the female's uterus for further development. Benefits of ICSI ICSI is considered by many infertile couples to be a godsend because of its high success rate. It offers the following benefits:  Addresses male fertility issues - Studies show that about a quarter of the infertility cases are caused by men. This treatment provides an effective solution to male fertility issues.

  2. Higher chances of pregnancy - In another study, statistics show that ICSI is approximately 85% successful. The chances of conceiving a child are high with this procedure. Be sure to consult a fertility specialist to find out if this treatment is the most suitable option for your case!
