  1. Insync 1.3 with file matching is finally here! We are glad to announce our biggest release yet, Insync 1.3. Insync 1.3 comes with one of our most requested features, file matching. This allows you to automatically migrate from Google Drive with the help of our new and simplified on-boarding process. External browser when logging in A notable addition to Insync 1.3 is our external browser login. This allows Insync to use your default browser when adding an account. This resolves SSO and proxy related issues some users have encountered and simplifies login by using your existing Google session so you won’t have to log in again. One-click for Google Drive users Our on-boarding process has been simplified and made more efficient for our users. There are two options upon setup: 1. You can re-use your existing Google Drive folder. This is for users who have used the Google Drive client in the past and wish to migrate to Insync.

  2. Upon onboarding you can just select your old Google Drive folder and that’s it! Insync will automatically detect your Google Drive Folder and will sync the files that were already downloaded. It also downloads new files that you might have added after you stopped using the Google Drive application. If you wish to change the name and location of your Google Drive folder, you can also do so using Insync. 2. You can opt to create a new folder for your files or use an existing folder to sync. Upon setup, Insync lets you determine the location and the name of your Insync folder. You also have an option to either sync all of your files or use our selective sync feature to choose which files you would want to sync locally. You can also choose to convert your Google Drive files to Microsoft Office or OpenDocument formats. Improved selective sync The selective sync feature was also improved by adding two things: 1. Selectively un-syncing now directly removes local files instead of moving them to ‘.insync- trash’. Insync’s previous behavior temporarily retains deleted files in a hidden folder called ‘.insync-trash’. This causes issues for users who have deleted a large number of files but their disk space remained the same. Insync resolved this by automatically removing those files. 2. An option was added that sets if Insync will download new files coming from Google Drive. To make syncing more space-efficient, Insync now has the option to not sync new files or folders added your Google Drive account. This helps if you only want to sync specific files. By unchecking “Sync new children of partial folders”, new files will not be downloaded to your Insync folder. New files under fully synced folders (as compared to partially synced folders) will still be downloaded. Last but not the least, our most awaited feature is finally available in 1.3, file matching. This feature matches files + folders in your file system with existing ones in your Google Drive. This feature will help speed up adding an account since it identifies the Google Drive app in your computer. This is because re-syncing is not needed, thus avoiding duplication. The availability of this feature allows you to use your old Google Drive folder with Insync. The files previously available in your old Google Drive folder will be identified and will be reused by Insync. Easy

  3. right? File matching, new on-boarding, improved selective sync and other new features are now available on Insync 1.3. For the geeks :) Here are the complete release notes: • Introduced file matching feature. Insync will now try to match your local (in your filesystem) and remote (in Google Drive) files to avoid duplicates and unnecessary uploads and downloads. • Added one-click on-boarding for Google Drive app users. This simplifies migration from using the Google Drive app to Insync. • Changed to use the default browser for logging in (instead of Insync’s internal browser). • Fixed an issue when saving selective sync settings. • (Linux) Fixed scaling issue for High-DPI displays. • Selectively un-syncing now directly removes local files instead of moving them to ‘.insync- trash’. Thus, selectively un-syncing files will immediately free up your space. • Added a new option in selective sync where you can have Insync to automatically un-sync new files coming from Google Drive. Just uncheck ‘Sync new children of partial folders’ to set this option. • Fixed a case where Insync gets stuck in syncing. • Fixed an issue where selective sync options are not respected. • Changed the Progress section to display the action as ‘processing’ instead of downloading or uploading if it’s not actually being downloaded or uploaded yet. This distinction is important when files/folders are being matched. • Fixed an issue where the UI can become stuck in unsaved changes. • Added an alternative login option in case the normal login mechanism doesn’t work (e.g. Insync website is down or unreachable from your network). This can be accessed via ‘Support’ in the app window. • Fixed replacing a file/folder with a link and vice-versa to become seamless and not involve unnecessary processing. • (Headless Linux) Fixed issue when sharing.
