  3. 2 + Pre-employment skills assessment test “A Pre-Employment Skills Assessment Test is an initial screening tool which is used to evaluate the candidates with consistency on the basis of a particular skill or competency which is most essential requirement for that particular job role.” In Pre-Employment Assessments Tests, required skills for a specific job are matched with candidates’ skills, and the candidates that best matches those requirements are shortlisted for the next step in the recruitment process.

Types of Pre-Employment tests Cognitive Ability Test Skills Test Cognitive Ability Tests are conducted to assess the reasoning skills, logical thinking skills, problem-solving skills and mental capabilities of the candidates. Such skills are difficult to assess only on the basis resumes of the candidates. So, cognitive ability tests like aptitude tests, numerical tests, etc. are used to analyze the general intelligence of the applicants. Today every company looks for skills instead of theoretical knowledge. Some job requires specific skills such as technical skills, typing, coding, interpersonal skills or communication skills. Skills Tests are conducted to test the hard and soft skills of the candidates which are required for a specific job. Such tests leads to hiring of most skilled and competent employees in a company. 5

Personality tests are usually used to assess the assertiveness, openness, sociability, conscientiousness and stress tolerance capabilities of the applicants. Such tests are highly effective to choose the best fit for a company. Emotional Intelligence Tests have been emerged as a new area of evaluation during the hiring process. These tests are administered to determine the extent of emotional maturity that a candidate possess. EI Tests facilitate the recruiters with a better picture of how the candidate would react to a real-life emotional situation that might occur in the future in the organization.

Sometimes, they are often referred to as Job Simulation tests. In Work Sample Tests, the candidates have to complete a task which is more or less related to their job role. The candidates are supposed to mimic the activities which they'll be expected to perform during the job. A Combined approach is always more beneficial than a single test method. By combining different assessment tests, one can have the enjoy benefits of all those methods and overcome their weaknesses. For example, by joining the skills test and work sample test, hiring managers can evaluate candidates’ skills based on how actually they implement it in a work-related situation.
