  1. WPC Certificate for Import - How can I get WPC ETA approval in India? What is WPC(wireless planning & coordination)? WPC operates under the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, and the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, which authorized the organization to regulate the use of wireless communication in India. WPC is a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India that regulates the utilize wireless spectrum and satellite orbits in the country. WPC is responsible for providing licenses and governing the use of radio frequencies, as well as ensuring interference-free communication in the country. WPC is responsible for managing the radio spectrum in India, which is essential for the proper functioning of wireless communication services such as mobile phones, satellite communication, broadcasting, and navigation services. The organization also oversees the registration of wireless equipment and devices, such as wireless microphones,

  2. cordless phones, and other communication devices, to ensure that they do not interfere with other wireless services. The organization works with industry stakeholders, such as telecom operators, equipment manufacturers, and research institutions, to identify new opportunities and challenges in the wireless domain and develop appropriate policies and regulations. ETA(Equipment type approval) Certificate for Importers WPC ETA certificate is a mandatory certification for all telecom and wireless products imported. ETA certification is granted by the WPC the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India. Importers must obtain ETA certification before they can legally import and sell telecom and wireless products in the Indian market. The certification process involves testing the equipment to ensure that it meets the technical specifications and standards set by the DoT. The ETA certification process is aimed at ensuring that the telecom and wireless products being imported into India are of high quality and meet the required safety standards. Products exempted from Equipment Type Approval Equipment Type Approval (ETA) certification is compulsory for most telecom and wireless products imported and sold in India, while there are certain products that are spared from this requirement. The following are some of the products that are exempted from ETA certification: 1. Personal computer (PC): It includes laptops and desktops are exempted from ETA certification as they are not considered to be telecom or wireless products.

  3. 2. Medical devices: Medical devices that use wireless technology, such as pacemakers and heart monitors, are exempted from ETA certification as they are regulated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 3. Low-power devices: Low-power devices, such as Bluetooth headsets and computer peripherals, are exempted from ETA certification if they operate at a frequency range of less than 9 kHz to 400 GHz and have a maximum output power of less than 10 milliwatts. 4. Defense equipment: Defense equipment that uses wireless technology, such as radars and communication devices, are exempted from ETA certification as they are regulated by the Ministry of Defense. 5. Consumer electronics: Consumer electronics products, such as televisions and home entertainment systems, are exempted from ETA certification if they do not have a wireless communication capability. 6. Imported for personal use: Products imported for personal use and not intended for resale are exempted from ETA certification. Process of Acquiring the WPC ETA approval The process of acquiring Equipment Type Approval (ETA) certification from the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India involves the following steps: 1. Determine the category of the equipment, The WPC has divided telecom and wireless products into several categories, each with its own set of technical specifications and requirements. 2. Once the category of the equipment has been determined, the importer must prepare the ETA certification application. The application must include details about the equipment, such as the technical specifications, test reports, and compliance certificates.

  4. 3. Submit the application along with the required documents through the WPC's website or in person at the WPC's regional offices. 4. WPC will conduct tests on the equipment to ensure that it meets the technical specifications and standards set by the DoT including electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, radio frequency (RF) testing, and safety testing. 5. If the equipment passes the tests and is found to be compliant with the relevant technical specifications and standards, the WPC will issue the ETA certificate to the importer. 6. The ETA certificate is valid for a period of five years, after which the equipment must be retested and recertified. The importer must apply for renewal of the ETA certificate before it expires to continue selling the product in the Indian market. How long is the WPC certificate valid? The Equipment Type Approval is valid for a period of five years from the date of issue. After the expiry of the ETA certificate, the importer must obtain a renewed certificate to continue importing and selling telecom and wireless products in the Indian market. The process for renewal of the ETA certificate is similar to the initial certification process, and the importer must submit the application for renewal along with the required documents and fees to the WPC. It is important for importers to keep track of the validity of their ETA certificate and ensure that they apply for renewal before the certificate expires to avoid any disruption in their business operations. Failure to renew the ETA certificate on time can result in penalties and legal consequences. Conclusion- In conclusion, the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India plays a crucial role in regulating the use of wireless

  5. communication in the country. WPC is responsible for providing licenses and governing the use of radio frequencies, ensuring interference-free communication, and managing the radio spectrum in India. For importers of telecom and wireless products, obtaining Equipment Type Approval (ETA) certification from WPC is mandatory. ETA certification ensures that the equipment meets the required technical specifications and safety standards. The certification is valid for five years, after which it must be renewed for importers to continue selling their products in the Indian market.
