  2. Information on Soccer • Origin was in China in 2600 BC • First played game was in England in 1863 • In Europe it is called football • Soccer is very popular in Europe • FIFA World Cup is held every four years

Key Terms • Dribbling– Moving the ball up field with feet. • Shooting– Kicking the ball in to the opposing goal. • Throw in – A way to put the ball back in play. • Pass- Advancing the ball by kicking to another teammate. • Corner Kick- Restarts game for offensive team when ball goes out on end line. • Goal kick- Restarts game for defensive team when ball goes out on end line.

  5. Positions • Forwards- Right, left, center • Midfielders- Right, left, center • Fullbacks- Right, left • Stopper • Sweeper • Goalie

  6. Rules • Goalie is only player permitted to use hands. • Throw-ins restart game on sideline • Corner kicks/goal kicks restart game on end line. • Two Touch Rule- Player can’t touch ball twice in a row when putting ball back in play. Hand Ball

  7. Rules Continued • Off Sides- Offensive player can’t be ahead of ball and involved in play unless defender is between them and goalie. • If foul is committed free kick is awarded. Direct Kick- Player can shoot on goal. Indirect Kick- A player has to touch ball before a shot can be taken.
