  3. How do growers properly alternate insecticides to avoid or delay the onset of resistance?

Insecticide Resistance Action Committee • IRAC formed in 1984 to provide coordinated industry response to insect and mite resistance • Mission Statement: * Facilitate communication and education on insecticide resistance * Promote the development of resistance management strategies in crop protection and vector control to maintain efficacy and support sustainable agriculture and improved public health

Insecticide Resistance Action Committee • IRAC has developed a mode of action classification scheme for insecticides and acaricides • Purpose is to provide growers, advisors, Extension staff, consultants and crop protection professionals with a guide to selection of insecticides and acaricides in an effective and sustainable IRM program

Development of IRM Fact Sheet • In 2004, the Southern Region IPM Center and IRAC developed an IRM fact sheet with insecticide mode of action classification scheme • Targeted to growers, county Extension agents, consultants and others involved in managing insect and mite pests Photo by Jack Bacheler

Distribution of IRM Fact Sheet • IRAC funded the printing of 15,000 copies of the IRM fact sheets • In January 2005, the Southern Region IPM Center distributed 1,000 copies to its partner institutions for use in Extension programs • Eventual incorporation of the insecticide mode of action classification scheme into state Extension publications (i.e., crop production guides, agricultural chemical recommendations, IPM manuals)
