  1. TITHES • Tithe • One tenth of the annual produce of a farm, paid to support the church • We must set aside one tenth(10%) of our monthly or annual earnings – Deut 14:22 • The tithe belongs to the Lord - Leviticus 27:30 A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or the fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.

  2. TITHES • The tithe is a holy offering to the LORD and it is the best. Num 18:25-29. The Levites received from the Israelites the tithe as their inheritance and they must give back one tenth of the tithe to the LORD. • Our wealth and riches come/originate from God. Deut 8:10-18 • We can only give God what He has already given to us. All of it comes from His hand. We must remember that God is the Giver of all things.

  3. TITHES • 1 Chron 29:12 & 14 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.

  4. TITHES • A vow is a solemn promise eg a marriage vow and must not be taken lightly. Ecc 5:4-6 When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands.

  5. TITHES • Jacob’s vow to the Lord – Jacob made a vow after he had a dream at Bethel. Gen 28:20-22 Then Jacob made a vow , saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s house, then the LORD will be my God and this stone I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth. Jacob negotiated and talked terms with with God.

  6. TITHES • Many a times, we talked terms with God and made many promises when we are in trouble. But after God has delivered us, we failed to fulfill our promises to God. • We must fulfill our vow to God otherwise it is better that we do not make a vow. • My personal vow to God concerning tithing of 10% to Him if He answers my prayer. Indeed, God is faithful and He answered my prayer and enable me to fulfill my vow to Him. I negotiated with the LORD just like Jacob. God is the one who tests our hearts to see if we are sincere before Him.

  7. TITHES • Tithing is a on-going process and it requires our long-term commitment. The more you earn, your 10% will be more in quantum and its harder to part. In fact, 10% is the minimum. Anything that is above is considered as offerings. • We must not rob God in tithes and offerings. We must not test God. • If we withhold our tithes to God, God will withhold His fullest blessings. If we want to experience God’s fullest blessings, we must not withhold in our giving. Malachi 3:8-12

  8. TITHES • God’s blessings is abundant and far beyond our human understanding. God is no man’s debtor. In my own situation, God has poured out His abundant blessings in my life. • Eph 3:20 Now to him who is able to to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. • Psalms 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

  9. TITHES • Our finances do not belong to us. It has been entrusted to us by God. We need to be good stewardship of what God has entrusted to us. • Our Church’s practice of offering box concept is good. Matt 6:3-4 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what you right hand is doing so that your giving maybe in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

  10. TITHES LESSONS LEARNT • We can start giving our tithes at our young age even if we are not earning any money. Eg our hongbao money, savings etc. • Our money is entrusted to us by God and we have to use it wisely. • Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” • God is the giver of all things and His blessings is abundant and beyond our understanding.
