History of PRP - Hematologists created the term "PRP" in the 1970s to describe plasma with a higher platelet count. - Initially used as a transfusion product to treat thrombocytopenia. - Subsequently used in maxillofacial surgery and sports injuries. - More recently, interest in PRP in Dermatology has increased.

Platelets and Growth Factors - Platelets develop in the Bone marrow and contain Seceretory granules crucial to their function. - Each platelet contains approximately 50 – 80 granules. - PRP is a natural source of signaling molecules, including growth factors and cytokines. - Upon activation of platelets, the granules release growth factors and cytokines that modify the cellular environment.
