These identities may alternate between being dominant and submissive, or one identity may take control of another.<br>Multiple Personalities<br>Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a psychiatric condition where people develop different personalities. It's also known as "multiple personality disorder" because it involves having two or more separate identities. People with DID often feel confused and disoriented when switching between personalities. They may not recognize themselves as being different people.<br>In some cases, people with DID have been able to control thei r multiple personalities. However, most people who have DID cannot control their alternate personalities. The person with DID usually has one dominant personality, which controls the other personalities. For example, if the dominant personality is aggressive, then the other personalities might be passive. If the dominant personality is passive, then the other personalities could be active.<br>Borderline Personality Disorder<br>Borderline personality disorder is characterized by unstable moods, intense anger, impulsive behavior, self-harming behaviors, and frequent suicidal thoughts and attempts. People who suffer from BPD often struggle with relationships and jobs. They tend to have difficulty controlling their impulses and may engage in risky behaviors such as substance abuse, promiscuity, and reckless driving.<br>The symptoms of borderline personality disorder are similar to those of other mental illnesses, which means that people suffering from BPD often receive misdiagnoses. For example, some doctors believe that people with BPD are simply experiencing depression. Others think that they are bipolar. Still others think that they have antisocial personality disorder.
