  1. Dot Online (.online): A Most Appropriate Alternative To Dot Com (.com) Some decades ago, a team of the United States military thought of connecting military centers together. They pursed the dream and made it a reality. As time passed by, the potential of this connection revealed itself, and the connection began expand. It evolved and improved from a small network of computing device, to a network-of-networks of computing devices. Today, the internet is used by billions of humans across the world. In the world we are today, the human race can hardly exist without the internet. It is ingrained in our every day lives and has contributed greatly to our advancement in the past few decades.

  2. The Web (World Wide Web) Without the impressive leverages of the internet, the internet would not have made as much impact as it has on humanity. The internet has many applications, of which the most important is the world wide web (web). The web is a system that allows indiscriminate and unending sharing of information across the world. All you need is to find a host, put your information on the host, and make the info available to any internet-connected user in the world. That is simply an overview of the web.

  3. The Web From A User View From the view of an average web user, the way the web works is quite different from the way a tech guy understands it. To an average user, all you have to do is to open up a web browser, type in a URL and the browser will load a page. How does it happen? The kind of answer you will get is: I do not know how it works, all I know is that I enter a URL, and something gets displayed. Well, their view of the web is not wrong, it is just incomplete.

  4. The Web From A Technical View A tech guy knows more about how the web works. When you enter a URL into a web browser, the URL has 2 or 3 parts, namely: the domain name, the path (the optional part), and the resource name (e.g. web page file, audio file, image file, etc.). Our concern lies on the domain name. The function of the domain name can not be well appreciated until you know what it feels like to use the internet without it. Let us take a little technical look at the internet. The internet is made of computing device, computers, smart phones, printers, etc. For a computing device to be a functional member of the internet, it is important that it has a unique identity known as IP address. An IP address is a string of numbers often separated with dots (.), e.g. 127.0.0.1. Each computer on the internet has a unique number in this format. Furthermore, the practical way the web works is that, we provide the IP address of a computer where a browser should fetch a resource. We also specify a path to the resource (if the resource is not on the computer's root directory), as well as the resource name. Now imagine a world where you are required to enter an IP address for you to access a website. For instance, instead of typing google.com, you are required to type something like 231.66.126.76, instead of typing facebook.com, you are required to type something like 198.250.89.100, etc. I am so sure of the fact that you will not find using the internet an easy task. To avoid this stress, the domain name system was invented. The domain name system is a system that makes possible the use of domain names instead of IP addresses. When you enter a domain name, the web browser maps the domain name to an IP address, then uses the IP address. In that way, you do not have to deal with strings of numbers.

  5. Dot Online (.online) As A Most Appropriate Alternative To Dot Com (.com) When the domain name system was created, the dot com extension (.com) was the leading extension. It gained so much acceptability that everyone buying a new domain name chooses the dot com extension. It came to a point where buyers of new domains started having problem with buying domain names, as appropriate domains are already in use by some other people. In short, you see things like organisation buying domain names at very expensive prices, by contacting the owner of a domain name who asks for such very large amount of money. Over the years, concern have been raised on this issue. Sadly, no solution has been so effective. New extensions have been created in hope that new buyers will seek after them, rather than go after the traditional dot com. This as well did not work. However, the relatively recent creation of the dot online extension seems to be a solution. This extension is a very good alternative to dot come. The extension is generic, intuitive and easy to acquire. What else is stopping a drift from the popular dot com, to dot online. All I think is needed is the publicity of dot online. The new dot online extension has to be publicisedand made known to the world.
