Founded in 1969 in an attempt to promote doctors to enter the general practice field of medicine, the ABFM is one of the biggest medical specialty boards in the United States. To achieve Diplomate status from the ABFM, Doctors must meet a strict regimen of eligibility requirements that ensure only incredibly qualified doctors like Buckwalter can take on the heavy responsibility inherent with family medical practice. Buckwalter gained his Diplomate status the same year he finished his residency in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at the McKeesport Hospital in Pennsylvania. Buckwalter served his entire post graduate, pre-certified medical years in Pennsylvania, receiving his first taste of real world medical procedures in 1993, when he interned with the Department of Surgery at Pennsylvania State University Hospital, working in the prestigious Hershey Medical Center. Buckwalter studied for his medical degree at the Ross University School of Medicine. He made the schools Dean’s List from 1998 to 1990 and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class with honors in 1993.
