  1. IMPORTANCE OF ACTIVE AND PASSIVE LISTENING BCA 4th SEMESTER

  2. WHAT IS ACTIVE LISTENING? ACTIVE LISTENING IS A WAY OF LISTENING AND RESPONDING TO WHAT THE OTHER PERSON IS TRYING TO ASCERTAIN ABOUT HIS OR HER EXPERIENCE. IN ACTIVE LISTENING THE LISTENER PAYS COMPLETE ATTENTION TO THE PHYSICAL DETAILS OF THE SPEAKER . FOR EXAMPLE:APPEARANCE, BODY LANGUAGE, EXPRESSION ,ETC.

  3. HERE, THE LISTENER ONLY HEARS THE SPEAKER'S WHAT IS PASSIVE LISTENING ? STATEMENT BUT DOES NOT RESPOND TO IT .A PASSIVE LISTENER NEGLECTS THE PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE SPEAKER, AS HE OR SHE IS NOT REALLY INTERSESTED IN WHAT IS BEING SAID.

  4. IMPORTANCE OF ACTIVE LISTENING 1. Be fully present: Active listening requires being fully present in the conversation. This enables us to concentrate on what is being said 2.Keep good eye contact: Making eye contact is important as this tells the other person that you are present and listening to what they say .It also shows that you are not distracted by anything else around you.

  5. 3.Be patient: Patience is an important activelistening technique because it allows the other person to speak without interruption.it also gives them the time to say what they are thinking without having you try to finish their sentences for them

  6. ACTIVE LISTENING 4.Withhold judgement: Remaining neutral and non-judgmental in your responses enables the other person to feel comfortable with sharing their thoughts. Some ways to be less judgmental : -learning more about different people and cultures -practicing acceptance of others -Expressing empathy for the person or their situation.

  7. IMPORTANCE OF PASSIVE LISTENING 1.Focus: Turn off your electronics and to concentrate on the speaker .Put your laptop away and don't respond to any distractions. 2.Position: Face the speaker and sit in a position that tells her you are ready to listen. Keep yours legs uncrossed and your arms open. 3.Silence : Passive listening requires little to zero verbal replies from the listener.
