  1. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Social Media In Schools by Kimberly Jean Fricke Social media has become very prevalent in the modern society we live in today. It can be easily accessed from our mobile phones and laptops. Schools are becoming more open to it and incorporating it into the classrooms. They are now using it for educational purposes in the schools. So, what are the pros and cons of social media in schools? We will find out below; Some Of The Pros; They Increase Student Collaboration. Group assignments can now be completed very quickly. Michigan School projects can also be done efficiently since students can contact each other easily. It is as easy as forming a virtual group on social media and discussing it there. These groups can have more than 50 members, which is a plus for the students since larger forums can be held benefiting everyone. It Increases Student Participation. Students who do not regularly participate in the classroom environment may be able to express their thoughts and views freely on social media. It can raise their confidence and help them find their voice. Through this, they can be able to participate in the class. An example of this is where the students have discussions on their social media platforms. The students may be more forthcoming in this avenue than in the class. Keeps The Parents, Teachers, And Students On The Same Page. The teachers can post the homework assignments and even school events on social media sites. Through this, the teachers, students, and parents are on the same page. The parents can use this avenue to know about their children's’ welfare and how to improve their class performance through Facebook where they can send private messages or even Whatsapp. Some Of The Cons; It Can Be A Distraction. Social media can be a massive distraction during class time. Instead of listening in class, the students may be distracted by social media messages, and this can be a serious concern. Students can also be sidetracked from their assignments easily and waste time on social media instead of finishing their assignments on time.

  2. Lack Of Control For Inappropriate Content. One of the reasons social media could be a concern in michigan schools is that it is hard to monitor how students use these sites. There are pornographic sites that are harmful to students and affect their studying. Use of foul language is also prevalent in some of the social media sites and the students may start imitating what they see and hear. These sites can be distracting and damaging to students. Cyber Bullying. There have been some students that have experienced cyberbullying on social media. Some students could write harmful messages to others that would be hurtful and affect them significantly. This could deter their performance in school, make them distracted and also lower their self-esteem. There are many pros and cons of social media in schools. It can be a useful tool, but it also has its negative issues. As an institution, you should weigh the pros against the cons and see if it is a good option for you and if you incorporate it, find ways to deal with its negative aspects.
