  5. Most Important Medical Tests. 1.Cholesterol Test : The Cholesterol test is conducted along with lipid profile to evaluate the risk of developing a cardiovascular disease and for diagnosis of issues related to heart. Total Cholesterol test is also ordered along with HDL-C and LDL-C to check success of treatment. High blood cholesterol is linked with hardening of arteries, heart disease, and risk of death by heart attack. This test is also used for routine check-ups. Results of Total Cholesterol lead towards forming a treatment which is life style changes or lipid lowering drugs. This test is recommended to high risk individual with attributes like smoking, obesity, unhealthy diet, physically inactive, high BP, family history of heart disease and suffering from heart disease.

  6. 2.Dhea sulfate test : DHEA sulfate test is widely used to evaluate the function of adrenal gland. It governs the reproductive and sexual health of an individual that is influenced by adrenal gland. In women, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate test is recommended for the diagnosis of different ovarian diseases and underlying causes of infertility. DHEA sulfate test is also used to diagnose different forms (congenital and adult onset) of abnormal thickening of walls of adrenal glands. The common symptoms that may appear in women due to excess of androgen are decrease in size of breast, abnormal body hair, and deep voice and enlarged Adam’s apple.

  7. 3.C reactive protein test : The C-reactive protein test in its highly sensitive form can be used to screen people who are at risk of developing cardiac and vascular disease. High levels of hs-CRP have found to be indicative of risk of development of arterial diseases, heart attack and stroke despite low levels of lipids in the body. The people who are recommended to take CRP test are smokers, individual suffering from hypertension, diabetics, people with family history and aged individuals.

  8. 4.Hcg pregnancy test : HCG pregnancy test is used as a confirmation test for pregnancy. It is used to detect the hCG levels (qualitative) in the urine, which is a hormone produced by placenta. HCG test is also used for monitoring pregnancy, as in healthy pregnancy the level of hCG increases in the first trimester (up to 10th week). If there is abnormality in the production of Hcg, it can be indicative of abnormal pregnancy which can lead to abortion of miscarriage. The abnormalities that can be detected through this test include intrauterine pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, tumor of trophoblast layer (placental layer), germ cell tumors or testicular tumors in men.

  9. 5.Glucose-test : The Glucose test is used to detect the glucose levels in the blood. It is recommended for the diagnosis of hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia and diabetes. The people with obesity, high blood pressure, low HDL and high LDL levels, women with history of gestational diabetes and ovarian cancers are considered to be at high risk of developing diabetes and thus the Glucose test is recommended for preliminary screening in such individuals. Individuals who are older than the age of 45 years old are required to get regular glucose test results to monitor their sugar levels. Known diabetics, on the other hand, are required to check their sugar levels at regular intervals during the day and if there are symptoms of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.

  10. 6.Estradiol test : Estradiol test is used for the evaluation of reproductive ability of women as this hormone is a prominent marker present in high amount in women of reproductive age only. Estradiol test is recommended in cases like women with menstrual abnormalities, abnormal vaginal bleeding, early or delayed puberty, functioning of ovaries and analysis of fertility treatment. In boys, the Estradiol level check is recommended if any of these symptoms appear: delayed puberty, development of breasts or lack of development of penis.

  11. 7.Chlamydia trachomatis : Chlamydia test is ordered to check successful diagnosis and treatment for bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia is one of the common STD and can lead to severe problems. Testing for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhea (gonorrhea) is done at the same time because the infections caused by these two got almost same symptoms. Proper diagnosis is important as both infections need different treatment. There is no specific symptom of the disease so regular check-ups are required. All sexually active women are at the risk of getting the disease and should get yearly screening. Risk factors includes; having other STDs, especially HIV, a partner with an STD, use of illegal drugs and frequent and unsafe sex practices. Sexually-active men are also required to have Chlamydia urine test on a yearly basis, especially those who have casual sex with different partners or men who engage in same-sex sexual activities.

  12. 8.pt and ptt : Both these test are used to evaluate the functioning of blood clotting factors (I, II, V, VII, X). These test are useful for the diagnosis of uncontrolled bleeding and abnormal clot formation. The international normalized ratio (INR) is calculated based on the findings of PT and is used for monitoring and dose adjustments in patients undergoing anticoagulant therapy (blood-thinning medicine, warfarin). The symptoms that lead to recommendation of this test include myocardial infarction, thrombosis, irregular heartbeats, excessive bleeding.

  13. 9.tsh : This is a thyroid hormone evaluation test which determines the increase (hyperthyroidism) or decrease (hypothyroidism) in the production of thyroid by pituitary gland. This test is widely used for the detection of various thyroid disorders, for monitoring the treatment of anti-thyroid therapy, for the detection of underactive thyroid in newborns and also for the screening and diagnosis of infertility issues in women. The clinical symptoms that act as prognosis of hyperthyroidism disorders include goiter, weight loss, shivering in hands, general weakness, visual disturbance and anxiety. The primary symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, constipation, puffy and dry skin, fatigue and irregular periods in women. If you present with any of the symptoms typical in thyroid disorders, then you will need a TSH lab test to check their levels. If a diagnosis of a thyroid-related disease is confirmed, testing TSH levels will be done regularly to monitor the levels and, at the same time, monitor the effects of the treatment so adjustments can be made. The interval between the TSH tests is typically six to eight weeks.
