Earning a college degree is an integral part of the great American Dream. College education not only opens more career opportunities for individuals but also polishes their social skills. Despite these benefits, enrollments in higher education institutions have been declining for the past six years. According to studies, enrollment at four-year for-profit academic institutions declined by 6.8%, while enrollment at four-year nonprofit higher education platforms declined by 0.4% in spring 2018. While the rate of decline may seem small, it represents an alarming trend in higher education. Copyright © 2022 Virtue Analytics Inc. All rights reserved. www.virtueanalytics.com
Here are some reasons that may be contributing to the declining enrollment rates at the nation's higher education institutions. • lack of financial resources. • poor career counselling • 3. poorly managed enrollment systems Copyright © 2022 Virtue Analytics Inc. lack of financial resources. Tuition and student loan debt are higher today than ever before. According to studies, more than 44 million U.S. residents currently have an estimated $1.5 million in student loan debt. High school graduates who lack financial literacy and resources face unusual challenges in the college application and admissions process. As a result, they choose not to apply, leading to a decline in enrolment. Copyright © 2022 Virtue Analytics Inc. All rights reserved. www.virtueanalytics.com
2. poor career counselling While in high school, students with irregular attendance records or inadequate academic performance often assume that they will not be able to attend college in the future. The lack of adequate career counseling at this stage can further solidify this assumption. As a result, students often fail to pursue higher education. Copyright © 2022 Virtue Analytics Inc. 3. Poorly managed enrollment systems Another factor that may be contributing to the current decline in college enrollment is a poorly managed college recruitment system. Higher education systems are not always fully transparent and free from bias. These systems are not able to predict the number of applicants and assess each applicant according to their abilities. Poor enrollment systems are also unable to predict the financial needs of incoming students, which ultimately leads to a decline in college enrollment. Copyright © 2022 Virtue Analytics Inc. It is primarily the responsibility of higher education institutions to do something about declining enrollment. One way to address this problem is to integrate advanced technologies, such as predictive analytics, into the current enrollment management system of higher education institutions.
