Maxim Poon Wong - Adaptive Clothing Makes Life Easier for Disabled

How many of you have ever had to do up a zip or button a shirt one-handed? Or put on a pair of jeans while seated? Do you know someone with Autism Spectrum Disorder who can't tolerate certain fabrics against their skin? If you have different sizes or only one foot, how can you buy shoes? It is hoped that advances in the field of adaptive clothing can address these issues. Adaptive clothing is specifically designed for people with disabilities, says Maxim Poon Wong.

  2. Maxim Poon Wong - How many of you have ever had to do up a zip or button a shirt one-handed? Or put on a pair of jeans while seated? Do you know someone with Autism Spectrum Disorder who can't tolerate certain fabrics against their skin? If you have different sizes or only one foot, how can you buy shoes? It is hoped that advances in the field of adaptive clothing can address these issues. Adaptive clothing is specifically designed for people with disabilities, says Maxim Poon Wong.

  3. – Adaptive clothing is being approached in different ways.– 01 02 Magnets, not buttons Unique sales platforms Under Armour was one of the first brands to use magnetic zippers in their clothing. The company's redesigned jacket zip, called the MagZip, consists of magnets that connect the ends of the zipper, making it easier to put clothes on one's own. In addition to product design, adaptive fashion can also be used in sales and marketing. In this system, consumers can buy single shoes while searching for the right size, width, and a variety of adaptive features such as easy on and off for those wearing ankle/foot orthoses. Additionally, magnetic buttons have been used on shirts, pants, and other clothing items to enable people with limited dexterity or the ability to use buttons to dress.

  4. 03 Shoes without laces Shoe designers have also attempted to make tying laces more convenient or eliminate them. Zips can be used in place of traditional laces, enabling one-handed tying.

  5. As with many consumers, people with disabilities simply want to be able to shop in physical and online stores and find the clothes they like, and that fit says, Maxim Poon Wong. So while technology is helping retailers offer a wider selection of adaptive clothing, it's not the only solution.
