  1. DESIGNING THE DIGIPAK By Millie Newman

  2. Vita’s design MAKING A MOCK UPDESIGN To begin making the digipak, we looked at all the previous designs that we had made individually. Then I combined the three… My design Lara’s Design

  3. What we decided on : ■ Inside back cover: Our lead Singer, sat within the CD circle, wearing headphones. Inside back cover: Our lead Singer, sat within the CD circle, wearing headphones. 5. A Digital Mockup That I made on Canva

  6. Taking photos for the DigiPak § We brought it a red two-piece denim set for Ari to wear, paired with a black head scarf, as we had seen in our research into 90s R&B fashion § I brought in my makeup bag, and the foundation I bought her, and quickly did a red lip and black mascara look as we didn’t have much time in the studio.

  7. Our Plan was to have our artist sat within the circular shape of the CD. So, we had to plan out what shape we needed her body in to take the picture, that we could than cut out in edit. Making the Inside back cover ■ To get the shape right we tried both; placing her on the floor of our white sheet and putting her on a step ladder. We also used a transparent sheet of plastic, with a circle drawn on it; so, we could picture how the image would look. I used the bottom of a chocolate tin to make the shape. ■ We also placed headphones on her head, so we would know were the wire would fall when we edited them in.

  8. Editing the image § To edit the photo, I used Photoshop § I didn’t know how to used cut out the outlined of a body, therefore I learnt how to do it on YouTube. Here is a link to the video that I watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCUVl3 WIaIo § I learned how to select and mask, use the object selection tool and how make a copy of a layer and invert it.

  9. First Attempt • I used the Lasso Tool for my initial attempt, however it didn’t look good, as there was the outline of the background. So, I redid the image and elevated the brightness the the second attempt Second Attempt

  10. Ellis’s Attempt ■ This was Ellis in my groups attempt at the inside back cover. After receiving feedback; we understood that the exposure was to dark, and the background didn’t fit within the frame. We also wanted to change the photo we used, as she looked as if she was straining her neck. ■ I took Ellis’s design and added the corrections.

  11. The design § I used a red circle graphic to match the blue to on the inside front cover and ahear to our color pallet § To make the headphones wire trailing off, I made attacked to wiggly line graphics and turned them black. § I input the cut out of our singer body into the image and positioned her so that her bottom is sat on the edge of the circle, as if sitting in it. § I also designed the CD pack outline by looking at photos online of their shape.

  12. Making the outside back cover I looked at the photos we took for the back cover: ■ I chose a photo that showed more of her body then we originally planned. When I tried zooming into the red jacket, I thought it looked uninteresting and her body shape gave more. ■ The photo also came out really dark, so I brightened the exposure of photo editor. ■ I cropped the photo into a square, so it fitted with the shape of a Digpak.

  13. PLANNING OUT THE ALBUM NAMES ■ The song names that I came up with, were inspired from R&B albums and gospel references. ■ In our song, there are mentions of religion, in the lyrics. For this reason, part of our artists persona is Christianity and I decided to create song names with this in mind. ■ Our artist also takes about a relationship in Holdin’ Me Down, therefore I made over song titles on this subject. What we decided: In The Beginning, Say Nothing, Joshua, Reflect On Me, 777, Not Yours, Keep Lovin’ Me, Holdin’ Me Down, Prodigal Daughter, Said What I Said, Rest N Beats, Genesis, Love, Jada

  14. The Design § At the bottom I found Copywriter information online, and input my artists name, production company and year of the albums release. § For a production company I made up own called ‘Fisher’ and took an ’F’ logo from the graphics elements on Canva. § I also took a barcode from the graphics sections, so that the customer would be able to buy the Digipak. § I color corrected the image. When taking the photographs, we used one red and one blue Jel on either side of the camera, to create red and blue shadows on the white sheet behind her. In edit, I enharden these colors, making the image look more vibrant.

  15. Making the Outside Front Cover Here are the different versions of the front cover. 1. Shows her face, adds in the circle motif. However, I don’t think this one is as aesthetically pleasing as the others, and the blue circle graphic upsets the coloring of her face. 2. The first design, without the blue circle. I prefer this one better because the colors are prettier, and her face is more of the focus. 3. Our artist framing the camera, all blue tone looks good next to the other sides of the Digipak. Only problem is the viability of her face 4. Same image as the 3rd, but with the circle motif removed, making her clearer.

  16. The Design § The cover contains the red logo seen on her other areas of her branding e.g. social media and tour posters. The red is contrasted against to the blue filtered image, making her name stand out. § The artist frames the camera, as seen in her music video for ‘Holdin’ Me Down’ – direct reference. § The blue color fits works well with the rest of the Digipak § Her face is seen clearly, with her body concealed, giving her a sense of mystery

  17. Inside front cover § We decided to go for a close-up on her lips for the inside front cover. Then edit the trail of the headphone wires going onto the edge. • Different pose ideas, we got a versions with her lips straight and versions with her doing different expressions. On set I directed her to stick out her tongue and pout.

  18. THE DESIGN § I cropped the photo, positioning her lips central in the frame. § I than enhanced the coloring of the photo, bringing out the blue tones, and saturating the red. § The original plan was to have the string from the headphones coming across into the inside front cover, however I felt like the wire detracted from the image and so took it out.
