  1. Picasa Syrup - MrMed Picasa Syrup is a drug used to treat invasive Candida and Aspergillus infections in severely immunocompromised patients. This may include HSCT recipients with GVHD or those with hematologic malignancies with prolonged neutropenia with chemotherapy. Patients who are hypersensitive to the drug should not be prescribed this medicine. This medication is used to treat fungal infections caused by Fusarium family. This medication is used for these infections when amphotericin B treatment does not improve the condition. It is also used to treat fungal infections and conditions called chromoblastomycosis and mycetoma. As in the previous case, this medicine is prescribed when itraconazole has not improved such conditions. This medicine is also used to treat coccidioides when treatment with amphotericin B, itraconazole, and fluconazole has not improved the condition. Picasa Syrup works by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis. This occurs through binding and inhibition of lanosterol-14alpha-demethylase, which is present in almost all fungi. This component is an important part of the cell membrane of fungi. It causes an antifungal activity. Common side effects of the drug include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, cough, headache, fever and hypokalemia. Serious side effects include drug hypersensitivity, herpetic toxicity, QT prolongation and arrhythmia. This drug should never be given in combination with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, as it increases the plasma concentration of this drug and hence the potential for rhabdomyolysis. Picasa Syrup is available from MrMed priced at Rs.11536 only. MrMed is India's largest online super specialty pharmacy. MrMed provides a customer-oriented and technology-supported service.
