  1. Impact of bariatric surgery on obesity related health issues Obesity is a global epidemic affecting people from every age group, including old adults, adolescents, and children. Not only obesity creates complications due to weight, but it causes several other related issues such as metabolic issues, associated comorbidities, psychological trauma, and reduced self-esteem. The only solution to morbid obesity primarily associated with other health conditions is laparoscopic and bariatric surgery so far. There are several options available according to the state of the patient. The impact of bariatric surgery has been very promising. Let’s review the wonders of bariatric surgery concerning the comorbidities. Bariatric surgery and Type 2 diabetes Obesity, along with Type 2 diabetes, is a fatal combination. Hence, it the focus of the studies related to obesity. In a study, the results indicate that weight loss surgery proves to help maintain a healthy weight and the reduction of the severity of diabetes. The main reasons for the post- surgery restoration of glycemic control include an increased insulin sensitivity, better insulin secretion, and enforced caloric restriction. Obstructive sleep apnea Sleep apnea is the most common form of sleep-disordered breathing, obstructing the upper airways while sleeping. Obesity is a potential risk factor for sleep apnea. However, the studies indicate that the impact of bariatric surgery proves to be beneficial in terms of sleep apnea cure as well. The patients may consider that they have been cured; however, taking a sleep apnea diagnostic test along with polysomnography is recommended. Dyslipidemia Dyslipidemia is a metabolic syndrome that links to several health issues such as hypertension, visceral obesity, insulin resistance, and thrombotic states, etc. Studies indicate that laparoscopic and bariatric surgery significantly improves lipid profiles. It helps in reducing LDLs, triglycerides and increasing the HDLs. Furthermore, the surgery enhances hyperlipidemia and hypercholesterolemia, and hypertriglyceridemia over two years after the treatment.

  2. Hypertension Among other comorbidities related to obesity, another on is hypertension. There is ample evidence of a strong correlation between weight and hypertension. Furthermore, the scientific evidence indicates that bariatric surgery’s impact on weight reduction also reduces blood pressure. Notably, obesity is a risk factor for hypertension. However, not all the people who suffer from obesity suffer from hypertension as well. Moreover, the relation is not that simple among laparoscopic and bariatric surgery, and hypertension is not that simple. It needs further study and research. Bariatric surgery and psychological health As obesity is strongly associated with deteriorating mental health, the impact of bariatric surgery is very positive on mental health. It improves self-image and reduces anxiety, depression, and social isolation. https://alsapakistan.com/ #Laparoscopic, #BariatricSurgery
