  1. Internal Sprinkler Inspection AND Requirements If you haven't checked in with your internal sprinkler system in a while, you may be due for an inspection. Here's everything you need to know about your 5-year internal upright or Pendent Type Sprinkler inspection: why it's happening, what to anticipate, and how to prepare. What Is an Internal Sprinkler Inspection Every 5 Years? Your internal sprinkler system should be examined on a regular basis to verify it has been properly maintained and will perform correctly if needed. Life-saving water can get clogged with MIC (microbiological influences corrosion), rust, slime, or other debris, which can reduce or block the flow of life-saving water, causing the entire system to fail when you need it the most. To keep you, your property, and your customers and workers safe, you must examine your interior sprinkler system at least every five years. And it's not only for your own peace of mind; the NFPA requires a 5-year internal sprinkler examination. What Should You Expect from a Sprinkler Inspection? The year 5 internal sprinkler inspection, according to NFPA 25, evaluates the flow of water at four locations of the system: the system valve, riser, cross main, and branch line. The examination should also include any other parts of the system that might be problematic, such as valves, gauges, sprinkler heads, water storage, and the FDC.

  2. Tasks: •Gauges should be changed or verified against a calibrated gauge. •Sprinkler heads must be examined and replaced as needed. If the inspector does not investigate the water storage tank, a professional industrial diver or remote video should. •Your inspector will examine the tank coating, pin holes, fissures, and overall wall thickness for evidence of pitting or corrosion. •All valves, particularly stress reducing, stress aid, and fire hose valves, should be inspected for corrosion or blockage, sufficient pressurisation levels, and operable clappers and seats. •If foreign elements are identified, internal plumbing will be examined for blockage. •The FDC (Fire Department Connection) should also be inspected to verify that the fire department can connect into it in the event of an emergency and that it is clear of obstructive debris that may prevent water from passing. A more thorough obstruction examination is required if organic or inorganic material is discovered within the system. NFPA 25 specifies the requirements for conducting the investigation. Preparing for a Sprinkler Inspection To prepare for the 5-year internal sprinkler inspection and to keep your facility and its inhabitants safe, you must undertake routine maintenance on your internal sprinkler system, replacing and checking parts as needed. A qualified specialist can assist you in evaluating your present system, updating outdated or blocked parts, and ensuring that your internal sprinklers operate at peak efficiency, giving you peace of mind in the case of a fire.
