• Job 1:21, If we don’t understand: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return there. 24. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • Si no abandonamos a Dios, El no abandonará a nosotros. Deut. 31:6, “¡Esforzaos y sed valientes! ... And if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.” 24:20.

• But at times David thought that God was far from him, as if he had abandoned him. Psalm 43:2, “You are the God of my strength; Why do You cast me off?”

  28. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • Sal. 44:23, “Despierta; ¿por qué duermes, oh Señor? Despierta; no nos abandones para siempre”. Afligido COMO SI fuera abandonado. • Psalm 44:23, “Arouse Thyself, why dost Thou sleep, O Lord? Awake, do not reject us forever.” Afflicted AS IF he were rejected.

  29. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • Sal. 88:14, “¿Por qué desechas mi alma, oh Jehovah? ¿Por qué escondes de mí tu rostro?” Sufrimiento COMO SI fuera desechado por Dios. • Ps. 88:14, “O Lord, why dost Thou reject my soul? Why dost Thou hide Thy face from me?” Suffering AS IF rejected by God.

Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning?”

• God had not abandoned him, but at times it seemed that way to David. He felt very alone, as if abandoned in his suffering and misery.

  32. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • E. Mat. 27:46, “Jesús clamó a gran voz… • E. Matt. 27:46, “Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” quoting Ps. 22:1, a prophecy of His suffering.

Jn. 8:29. • God had not forsaken Him, as He had not forsaken David. 36. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • Pero ¿cómo oírle Dios si no estaba cerca, si le había dado las espaldas, escondido su rostro y le había abandonado a morir solo? • But, how could God hear Him, if He was not near, if He had turned His back on Him, hidden his face and abandoned Him to die alone?

• Calvinism teaches that Christ became a repugnant sinner and, therefore, that God could not look at Him, turned His back on Him, forsook Him. The Bible says no such thing.

  38. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • 2 Cor. 5:21, “Al que no conoció pecado, le hizo pecado por nosotros”; es decir, el sacrificio por el pecado. Hosea 4:8, “They eat up the sin of My people” (the sin offerings).

• 1 Pet. 2:24, “bore our sins in His own body on the tree,” but did not become a sinner; this is like Mat. 8:17, “bore our sicknesses,“ but that did not make Him sick.

And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.” Jn. 8:29.

  41. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • Entonces, ¿no citar el texto? • Then we shouldn’t quote the text? Yes, quote it, but don’t say things that the Bible does not say: “God left you”; “God withdrew from you”; “the hidden face”; etc.

  42. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • Dios no abandonó a Cristo en la cruz porque Cristo no había abandonado a Dios. 44. • We cannot see Him with our physical eyes but with the eyes of faith. He does not promise that we are going to “feel” His presence. We do not walk by sight nor by feeling but by faith, 2 Cor. 5:7. He doesn’t give “signs.”

  45. “Cerca de Ti, Señor” “Nearer, my God, to Thee” • El promete, Sant. 4:8, “Acercaos a Dios, y El se acercará a vosotros”. ¿Cómo nos acercamos a Dios? 1:22, ser “hacedores de la palabra”. • He promises, James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” How do we draw near to God? 1:22, be “doers of the word.”

Matt. 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.“ Do you want to draw near to God?
