    $9.23 million in funding from the Australian Government to: Establish wireless communication networks Undertake advanced wireless research Support development of applications The network is part of a $30 million project to make Australian companies key players in the next wave of the Internet. Project is more than just the infrastructure: It will assist university research in collaboration with industry It will provide direct support to companies developing new applications and technology and will facilitate commercialisation of these new technologies.     The mNet consortium has established an unlisted public company - mNet Corporation Ltd Board Membership Prof Mike Miller (Chair) University of SA Mr Gary Ballantyne Alcatel Australia Dr Chris Beare Consultant Mr Tony Bundrock Telstra Corporation Prof Reg Coutts Adelaide University Mr Peter Karidis Airnet Commercial DIT has funded and coordinated the SA-based bid by mNet Corporation to establish a wireless internet infrastructure along the North Terrace precinct. On May 29th, Senator Alston announced a $9.23m grant to support this initiative. We propose to support mNet through EDP with $800,000 in cash and additional in-kind support. This support over 3 years was anticipated in negotiations with the Commonwealth. Cash: $800,000 For use in establishing infrastructure in Whyalla, support for the development of applications by SA companies and establishing education-related initiatives.
