  3. What is the philosophy of Government described/found in the Declaration of Independence? • Make a list of the important developments in American history that led to achieving the government described in the Declaration of Independence?

Natural Rights- The government protects Rights of life, liberty and Pursuit of Happiness (Property) Social Contract- Governments are instituted among deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed= the power of government comes from the people. Popular Sovereignty= voting= democracy “We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal” = EQUALITY What is the philosophy of Government found in the Declaration of Independence?

  7. 1789 the US Constitution is ratified and George Washington is elected first president of the United States. 1830 – Jacksonian-Democracy = Adult white males Universal Manhood Suffrage 1865 – Civil War Ends 13th – No slavery = Equality 14th – Equal Protection of Law 15th – Voting Rights 1920 – 19th Amendment = Women right to vote 1954 – Brown vs. Board of Education Illegal to discriminate in schools Illegal to separate the races = Equality 1964 – Civil Rights Act EQUALITY 1965 – Voting Rights Act 1972 – Voting Age 26th Amendment – 18 becomes voting age What are the stepping stones to achieving the Government described in the Declaration of Independence?
