India’s Oilmeal Exports According to data compiled by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), India exported 28.83 lakh tonnes (lt) of oilmeals from April to November 2023-24, compared to 23.82 lt during the same period in 2022-23. BV Mehta, Executive Director of SEA, highlighted the demand for Indian soyabean meal from the global market and stated that increased price competitiveness and the recent scarcity of Argentine export supplies contributed to the growth in exports. In the first eight months of 2023–24, India exported 8.57 lt of soy meal (3.25 lt a year ago). Soybean meal (ex-Kandla) was quoted at $540 per tonne as of December 14, whereas Argentina's soybean meal (CIF Rotterdam) was quoted at $545 per tonne. As a result, the export of soy meal from the new crops from India increased.

  2. India’s Logistical Benefits South-East Asia is a primary market for Indian soyabean meal. According to him, India can supply in small quantities and has a logistical advantage over South East Asian destinations. India exported 16.07 lt (14.74 lt) of rapeseed meal between April and November of 2023–2024. As per Mehta, India offers the most affordable rapeseed meal (f.o.b. India) at $326 per tonne to South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and other Far-East nations. The price per tonne of Hamburg (ex-mill) rapeseed meal was quoted at $334. Prohibition of Rice Bran Exports Mehta stated that in contrast to industry expectations, the government has decided to keep the export ban on de-oiled ricebran in place until March 31, 2024. West Bengal and other eastern states of the nation are important producers of ricebran extraction. He said that since the new season began, there has been a noticeable increase in the processing of ricebran. As a result, he said, there is now a noticeable increase in the availability of de-oiled ricebran, which has resulted in a price decrease from Rs. 18,000 per tonne on July 28 (the day the notification was issued) to Rs. 12,800 per tonne currently. He stated that as ricebran processing grows, it is expected that prices will drop even more. Major Indian Oilmeal Importers Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea, and Bangladesh are the top importers of Indian oilmeals. From April to November 2023–2024, South Korea imported 5.55 lt of oilmeals (6.03 lt in April– November 2022-23). Quantities included 3.77 lt of rapeseed meal, 1.51 lt of castorseed meal, and 26,671 tonnes of soyabean meal. Vietnam received 3.35 lt (5.67 lt) of Indian oilmeals exports in the first eight months of 2023–2024. There were 90,540 tonnes of ricebran extraction, 1.94 lt of rapeseed meal, 49,683 tonnes of soyabean meal, and 905 tonnes of groundnut meal. Thailand imported 4.62 lt of oilmeals from April to November 2023-24 (4.33 lt). 4.49 lt of rapeseed meal, 7,039 tonnes of soyabean meal, 4,666 tonnes of ricebran extraction, and 701 tonnes of castorseed meal were all included. During the first eight months of 2023-24, India exported 5.95 lt of oilmeals (2.46 lt) to Bangladesh. Among these were 27,771 tonnes of ricebran extractions, 3.03 lt of rapeseed meal, and 2.63 lt of soyabean meal.
