  1. The Lord Mayor's Show In 1215, King John allowed the citizens of London to choose their own mayor through an election. Since then, every newly-elected Lord Mayor travels to Westminster from London to pledge his loyalty to the Crown in a beautiful tradition referred to as the Lord Mayor’s Show. Be a part of this awesome show that attractions thousands of visitors each year while a resident at Presidential Marylebone Mayfair. Today, this 800-year old tradition is celebrated with great pageantry. You can feel the dynamism and energy that radiate from the different overseas organizations, youth associations, businesses, local folks, and charitable institutions that are represented in the parade. People watch or join the procession as it makes its way across London. The procession is three miles long. The parade is grand and elaborate. It features military marching bands, horses, and dancers. It is a beautiful blend of traditional pomp and modern revelry.

  2. Highlights of the Lord Mayor’s Show • The parade starts out from Mansion House at 11 in the morning. • It is composed of more than a hundred floats, thousands of performers, two gigantic figures made of wicker – all accompanying the Mayor who rides in the iconic golden coach and makes his way to pay homage to the Queen. (The coach makes its home in the Museum of London the rest of the year). • It makes its way past St. Paul’s Cathedral. • It continues on to the Royal Courts of Justice. It makes a stop here for the Lord Mayor to pledge his allegiance to the Queen. • It then makes its way back to Mansion House, this time, through the Victoria Embankment. • The parade usually ends at half past 2 in the afternoon. • People who participate in the Lord Mayor’s Show continue enjoying the sights of London with a guided tour of the city. There are special exhibitions and family activities that anyone can join for free. Donations, however, may be given through the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. • The evening ends with a celebratory firework display that illumines the skies over the Thames.

  3. You can also read: Make your Christmas extra special with a perfect toy gift Tickets • You don’t need to get a ticket to watch the procession. However, you need to get going early enough so you can pick a choice spot. This is especially true if you are bringing children with you. • The areas around Mansion House and St. Paul’s are usually busy and full of people. It is better to go to and find space in Queen Victoria Street, Victoria Embankments, or Fleet Street. • If you want to be assured of an excellent view of the parade, you can purchase a ticket for a seat at one of the grandstands conveniently located across and next to St. Paul’s Cathedral. As the parade makes its way towards the cathedral from New Change, you get a clear view of the grand parade. • There are no seats available other than those in the grandstands. Bring folding chairs if you have kids with you. In the meantime, you can choose to book your stay at any of the self catering apartments in London so that you can spend quality time with your kids.

  4. Transportation You don’t have to bring your car if you want to view the Lord Mayor’s Show. London has a lot of bus, Tube, and train links that you can avail of. It is going to be a hectic day, though. Call the Transport for London to find out if they anticipate any changes in their services before you head off for the festivities.
