Manycountriesaroundtheworldarejoiningforcestostoptheuseofsingle-Manycountriesaroundtheworldarejoiningforcestostoptheuseofsingle- useplastic; somehavestartedtheirbans (16inall) includingtheUnited Kingdom, theUSAandTaiwan. IndiawillfollowlaterthisyearinOctober. Additionally, thereare127countriesthathavesomeformoflegislationin placetokerbtheuseofthistypeofplastic. Manycountriesnowhave taxationoncarrybags, forexample, insomestatesinIndiaifyougo shoppingtoasupermarket, youareaskedtopayforcarrybags, therefore, encouragingshopperstobringtheirownbagswiththemandre-use. India’ssingle-useplasticbancomesintoforceon2ndOctoberthisyear, withtheplanbeingthatallsingle-useplasticswillbescrappedby2022.  Thebanwillmeancorporatessuchasairports, hotels, officesandairlines willeventuallyremovealluseofsingle-useplastic, replacingitwith recyclableplasticorcardboardandpaper. Thebancoverstheimportand manufacturingofsingle-useplastic.  Thisisdoubtlessafantasticinitiative. Indiahasoneofthebiggestcoastlinesintheworld, andsoisresponsiblefor someofthepollutionproblemintheoceanssurroundingthecountry. This banwillhelptopreventfishandothermarinelifefromgoinginto extinction.  Italsowillpositivelyimpactonthetoxicityproblemofthe chemicalsthatlingerfromdecomposingplastic, sothathumansandland animalsdon’tingesttheharmfulchemicalsthatcouldendangertheirlives. WhyisSingle-UsePlasticHarming theEnvironment? Some Facts! Bearinmindthatplasticsdon’tbiodegrade; theyjustslowlyturnintomicro- plastics, tinyparticlesofplastic.  Notonlydoesitposedangertomarinelife, thesemicro-plasticsreleasetoxicchemicalsthateventuallytransferintothe atmosphere, plantlifeandanimaltissue.  Remember, wehumanseatmeat, fish, fruitandvegetables – evenastrictveganisnotsafefromthesetoxic chemicalsbecausetheyenterplantsandanimaltissue. Worryingly, not manypeoplerealisethatStyrofoam (asingle-useplastic), forexample, is extremelytoxicandifitisingested, itcanseriouslydamagereproductive organs, thelungsandthenervoussystem. 150milliontonsofplasticisliterallyfloatingaroundinouroceans, poisoning thefishandplantlife.  It’salsogettingworse.   3. WhatcanWeDo? Aswellascountrybans, whatcanwedoaboutit?  Well, wecanallbemore awareofwhatsingle-useplasticwehaveinourhomes, it’sdefinitelytimeto ownup, takeactionandchange! Whynotstartyourdaybybrushingwitha bambootoothbrush. Everytoothbrushmanufacturedsince1930isstillon ourplanet. That'sbillionsandbillionsofthem!! Don’tuseshoppingbagsmadeofplastic, instead, useclothbagsorpaper bagsandtakethemoutwithyouwhenyougoshopping.   Takeyourown flasksofteaorcoffeetowork, usecoffeeshopsthatprovidere-usable disposablecups. Don’tbuyplasticwaterbottles – useaChillybottleor similarflask-typeinstead.  Neverbuyplasticstraws, buypaperinstead. Refuseone, ifoffereditwheninarestaurantorbar. Onapositivenote, moreandmorecountriesaretakingownershipofthe single-useplasticproblem. Thisisallgoodnews, butweasindividualsalso needtotakeresponsibilitytoliveapurelifestyle. Everypersonontheplanet shouldtakenote, geton-boardandleadalifewhichasfaraspossible involvesonlyusingrecyclablematerials.Inaworldofenvironmentaldangers, weneedtoownup, actandchangetomakeitabetterplaceforfuture generations.
