  1. Indian weddings and significance of punjabi chuda Indian weddings don’t last a day or a week, they last a whole damn year. The butterflies, the rituals, the teasing, every first experience goes on till the first anniversary. The bride decks up from head to toe for the entire first year of her marriage. Of course a little less fancy than on D-day and the whole wedding week. Jewellery becomes an everyday essential for her. Be it only a ring or toe rings or any other piece of jewellery, she is supposed to put on some jewellery after marriage that symbolises her marital status. In Punjabis, the ritual says to wear the wedding bangles for the entire year of marriage. The bangle set that she wears on the wedding day is called a Chuda. It is a beautiful combination of white and red glass bangles containing a particular amount of bangles set in an attractive neat sequence. The punjabi chuda is worn for the whole year and on the first wedding anniversary, a small gathering is made to complete the last rituals of the wedding. On this day, the chuda is taken off of the bride’s hands and is given new bangles. The beauty of punjabi chuda enlightens the gathering with charm and grace. The chudareminds the girl of her responsibilities and the joy with which she was brought into her new home. It doesn’t let the married woman forget the butterflies and the initial feeling of being married. The Punjabis are known for their enthusiastic nature. They look for opportunities to have fun at gatherings. This ritual is another reason for them to get together and reminisce about the memories of the wedding day and make more memories on the present day. The wedding is as special for a man as for a woman. The life of the man also changes on the wedding day. He celebrates it with as much energy as the woman. He decks up in a sherwani and covers his head with a pagdi. Groom necklace is another example of the magic of jewellery. The compliment that the groom necklace gives to his outfit is beyond explanation. Both the groom and the bride pair up in the presence of all their family members, relatives, and friends. The charm of jewellery doubles the joy of celebration. The couple is tied in forever togetherness cherishing all the joys, sorrows and jewellery.
