  1. TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES AFTER AN AUTO ACCIDENT A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a type of head injury that occurs when an external force injures the brain. This can include things like car accidents, falls, and sports injuries. There are three main types of TBI: Closed head injury: This is the most common type of TBI and occurs when the head hits an object, but the skull doesn’t break open. This can cause bruising, swelling, and bleeding on the brain. Penetrating head injury: This type of TBI occurs when an object pierces the skull and enters the brain. Blast injury: A blast injury is a type of TBI that can occur when someone is near or exposed to an explosion. In regard to car accidents, we’ll refer to closed head injuries from here on out.

  2. Concussions A concussion is the most common type of brain injury, and it’s caused by a bump or blow to the head. Symptoms can include headache, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, and confusion. Concussions can range from mild to severe, and in some cases, they can be fatal. In order to minimize your risk of a concussion, always wear a seat belt when you’re driving or riding in a car. And if you do experience any symptoms of a concussion after a car accident, seek medical attention right away. Contusions A contusion is a bruise on the brain. It occurs when blood vessels break and leak blood into the surrounding tissues. Contusions can cause swelling, increased pressure on the brain, and even death. If you or someone you know has suffered a contusion as a result of a car accident, seek medical attention immediately. You may need surgery to relieve the pressure on the brain. Lacerations A laceration is a cut or tear in the brain tissue. They can occur when an object pierces the skull, as in a penetrating head injury, or when there’s blunt force trauma to the head, as in a car accident. Lacerations can cause bleeding and swelling inside the skull and increase pressure on the brain. They may also require surgery to repair. If you or someone you know has suffered a laceration as a result of a car accident, seek medical attention immediately and contact a Los Angeles car accident attorney for your harms and losses. Epidural Hematoma An epidural hematoma is a type of hemorrhage that occurs when an artery in the brain ruptures and bleeds into the space between the skull and the brain. This can cause increased pressure on the brain and lead to serious damages or death if left untreated.
