  1. The Purpose of a Suppressor Cover Anyone that has an avid interest in hunting, the shooting range, or that is part of a social media hunting group, or even just those passionate about the sport that has engaged in watching a few instructional videos on the topic, will have noticed that some people cover their firearms in wraps, specifically over the barrel and the suppressor. Some of these wraps look very nice and may even be designed with certain imagery or camouflage print, and for a novice hunter, it may seem that these wraps are just for show. However, they serve a very important purpose. The purpose of a suppressor cover is to prevent the heat haze from getting in the way of and distorting the image of the sight that is located in front of the scope of the rifle. The secondary purpose of this cover, or wrap, is to prevent accidental injury from contact with the hot suppressor. Additionally, if you’re in combat or in a situation where you may need to evade detection from an opponent that is using thermal imaging, a suppressor cover will also mask your heat signature, which will make it more difficult for your opponent to spot you. The suppressor can also be called the silencer, and this piece of equipment gets incredibly hot once the gun is fired. Usually, if only one or two shots are fired, the suppressor won’t reach dangerous levels of heat, but if you are engaging in rapid-fire, the suppressor can get very hot in a very short space of time, which can be hazardous. This is particularly true for those that engage in shooting at a range, where rapid-fire is quite common. Of course, the heat level of the suppressor will, for the most part, be dictated by the type of firearm in use. An AR-15 rifle, for example, will get very hot very quickly after as little as thirty rounds, and, truth be told, any automatic or even semi-automatic rifle that has a fairly high firing rate will quickly heat its suppressor. Although it may seem like common knowledge, the suppressor’s heat can be incredibly dangerous, and that is why it is always recommended to not touch the suppressor or surrounding parts at all, even if just one round has been fired. You just never know how hot it might get, and some firearms have suppressors that can quickly and easily reach temperatures of between 500 and 800°F. If your arm or hand were to accidentally come into contact with this type of heat, you’ll need some serious medical attention. This is one of the reasons why a suppressor cover is of the utmost importance. However, even if you’re not planning on touching the actual suppressor, the heat can still present a problem. Any heat will generate a haze around it, and the same goes for the heat from a suppressor. This heat haze, or mirage, can negatively affect your visibility as it will emit right in front of your sight. That is why a

  2. suppressor cover is so important, for hunters especially. This heat-haze can affect your visibility to such an extent that you may not be able to see the game that you’re aiming at, or, in a different scenario, the target at the shooting range. It is also possible for this heat to cause smoke, particularly in areas where it may be very cold, and this can also limit your visibility. So, for anyone that uses a suppressor, it is imperative to invest in a top-quality suppressor cover. These covers don’t only serve the purpose of looking good and protecting your equipment, but they truly do make you a better shot.
