  2. Technology-Enhanced Classrooms

  3. Where to begin Everything that is presented on the screen at the front of the classroom will also be displayed on the computer monitor. Please check to make sure the computer monitor is “On”. The flip-up touch panel allows for easy control of all the classroom’s technology, except lighting and the screen controls. The projection screen is controlled by the silver toggle switch on the wall behind the instructor’s desk.

  4. Controlling the Classroom Technology The image to the left is the LCD touch panel used in all of our technology-enhanced classrooms at OSU-Tulsa. If left untouched the screens will turn off after five minutes, however, the systems are still on. To reactivate the screen, simply touch anywhere on the screen and the last active page will be presented.

  5. Equipment Instructor control options (Additional buttons may appear on screen based on selected option) • Elmo • Functions like an overhead or opaque projector allowing notes or objects to be shown in detail. • VCR & DVD • TV & Satellite transmissions, DVD, & VHS media can all be used to aid in teaching presentations. • PC / Laptop • External connections are available should the classroom PC not be desired. • A USB ports for easy access to the Classroom PC are located on the side of the monitor. • Projector • By default the Classroom PC will be displayed on screen when turning “ON” the projector. • The projector may take up to 30 seconds to “Warm Up” before an image is displayed. • Please turn the projector, computer and computer monitor “OFF” when the class is over, or it is no longer needed.

  6. For Your Convenience We have placed our business cards in every classroom on the instructor workstation to aid in contacting us if any problems happen to occur during class.

  7. Interactive Television Classrooms

  8. How to Start The image to the left is the LCD Touch Panel used in our ITV Classrooms. If left untouched the screens will turn off after fifteen minutes, however, the systems are still on. To reactivate the screen, simply touch anywhere on the screen and the last active page will be presented.

  9. Where to begin When teaching from the Tulsa classroom, the system will need to be switched from “Receive” to “Originate” for proper viewing of the class. This is done from the screen shown to the left. If this is not the screen you see, touch the button in the lower right corner that says “Main Menu” and this screen will be brought up.

  10. Origination - Equipment Instructor control options (Additional buttons may appear on screen based on selected option) • Elmo • Functions like an overhead or opaque projector allowing notes or objects to be shown in detail. • VCR & DVD/Laserdisc • TV & Satellite transmissions, DVD, VHS, & laserdisc media can all be used to aid in teaching presentations. • PC / Laptop • External connections are available should the classroom PC not be desired. • A USB cable for easy access to the classroom PC is located next to the telephone. • Instructor, Student & Far Site • These selections determine which camera feed is shown on the front television.

  11. Reception Settings • When setting the Touch Panel to Receive: • The orange device selection buttons on the right side of the screen will not appear. • The Tulsa classroom will be displayed on the Touch Panel’s screen. • The Far Site will be presented on the front television screen. • The gray “Volume” and “Main Menu” control buttons will still be available for use.

  12. Transmission - Notices The videoconferencing technology is sound activated. If there is more than one other site in a transmission, you will see whoever spoke last. When the instructor microphone is open, the class will see just the instructor unless a student speaks during that time. Please encourage all students, both here and at the other sites, to make sure the microphones are muted until a question arises. Please remind students to press and hold the activation buttons on the desk microphones when asking or answering questions so that the other sites can hear them. The microphones are only active while the red light is on. Please have students turn-off pagers and cell phones during class as these may cause distracting noises to be generated in the transmission equipment. The video stream is compressed over the Internet, some quality issues may arise because of this fact. Please use larger, more distinct fonts on PowerPoint presentations or hand written notes.

  13. Other Services • The LTS office handles any academic materials for the ITV classrooms. To this end, any homework submitted is promptly time stamped and couriered to the class’ outreach extension office in Stillwater, unless other dispensation has been requested by the instructor. • As an aid to instruction, all ITV classes are recorded for later playback/review unless specifically requested by the instructor that a session or course not be recorded. • Whenever requested, the LTS staff will proctor quizzes and exams for the ITV classes. Please send any materials to be proctored at least twenty-four hours in advance of the session they are to be taken in so that we can insure having enough staff to cover all requests.
