The government on Sunday approved a framework for the proliferation of public Wi-Fi networks through PM Wi-Fi Access Network Interface or PM WANI scheme. The initiative aims to elevate wireless internet connectivity in the country. s part of this scheme, the government aims to provide internet connectivity through Public Data Offices (PDOs). The scheme aims to not only boost the u201cease of doingu201d business but also will do the u201cease of living.

  2. The concept revolves around four components: Firstly, theso-called ‘PDO’or‘Public Data Office’,whichis the WANI compliant Wi-Fi hotspot itself delivering broadbandservices tosubscribers. The second component is a so-called ‘PDOA’, or PDO aggregator, whichin essence is theauthorisation and billing systemprovider,through whomthe PDO’s will actually offer the service.The third component is an App that will allowusers to register and discover WANI compliant Wi-Fi hotspots in the nearby area and – in some cases – may allowroaming between hotspots.
