  1. THE ORIGIN OF WEDDING RINGS RITUAL In the current times of jewellery shopping online, let’s take a peek into what started the tradition of wedding rings. In complete contrast to jewellery shopping online, let’s understand what started it all. HOW DID THE CONCEPT OF WEDDING RINGS FOR WOMEN AND MEN BEGIN? Getting married in medieval England was remarkably simple. All that was required to do from the couple’s end was to offer each other their ‘present consent’ and this consent was often expressed through the giving and accepting of an object called a ‘wed,’ which was often a ring. https://shop.hazoorilallegacy.com/

  2. Thus weddings were known as a ceremony where a man offered a woman a ring and she accepted it. The ritual became a norm in the 8th century. However, the confusion about the legitimacy of weddings became pretty common since during that time the witnesses and clergymen were not required to be present at the wedding ceremony which led to one or both of the couple denying that a wedding had taken place. Therefore in the 12th century a church ceremony was established by the Christian church declaring marriage to be a holy sacrament. Wedding rings for women and men were a part of the ceremony, and it became the rule that no man should place any type of ring on a woman’s hand unless he meant to marry her. Prior to this, rings did not always signify marriage and were often given as tokens of devotion or to represent betrothal. It is to believe that the concept of two different types of rings emerged when the church codified marriage: the more personal engagement ring and the church-sanctioned wedding ring. https://shop.hazoorilallegacy.com/

  3. WHEN DID MEN START WEARING WEDDING RINGS? The wedding rings were mostly worn by women until the past century; however the Christian church promoted exchanging wedding rings as a way of keeping men faithful. The concept of dual rings only caught on with people during the treacherous times of World War II when American and European soldiers wore wedding rings as a way to remember their wives and sweethearts back home. The tradition continued through the Korean War. After this, besides wedding rings for women, wedding rings for men caught on among civilians as well. It is fascinating to know how the tradition caught up with men and women much like thejewellery shopping online which was a big step from the belief that jewellery can never be bought online. https://shop.hazoorilallegacy.com/
