  2. Overview • Waiting is a big part of the job application process. You keep an eye out for fresh employment openings that fit your abilities and interests. • You prepare a cover letter and résumé, send them off, and wait to hear back about an interview opportunity. • If you get an interview , you prepare, give it your all, and then wait to hear back. The closer you get to receiving a genuine offer, the more eager you become to learn more. • Anxiety generates excitement and expectation. You want to act when you're energised.But don't do it. Wait. At this point, you must be strategic about how and when you follow up.

  3. Overviewcontd... • The truth is that there isn't much you can do to support your cause right now. Being excessively eager or aggressive will (at best) be irritating, and (at worst) may jeopardise your chances of landing the job. • Keep in mind that the individual who interviewed you may be responsible for a variety of jobs or mock interviews. Moreover, if everyone they interviewed contacted them, their inbox would be flooded with questions. • There are a few exceptions to this "waiting" rule, though. There are four instances in which sending a message to the recruiting manager is truly in your best interest.

  4. The thank you note • First and foremost, at the conclusion of your interview or interview practice , inquire as to when you may expect to hear from the recruiting manager regarding next steps. • This date can help you figure out when it's the best time to follow up later.

  5. The thank you noteexample Greetings, [manager]. Thank you very much for your time yesterday and for allowing me to express my interest in [job] and discuss my qualifications.I was particularly interested to learn about your company's new employee training programme, which provides an overview of several units and career prospects. I look forward to hearing from you.

  6. The follow up note • Don't write a note straight away if you don't hear back from the recruiting manager by the day they indicated they'd make an offer. • Even if you weren't the first candidate for the position, you're still in the race. They may make a job offer to someone else, who may or may not accept it. Allow them sometime to sort things out.

  7. The follow up note example Greetings, [manager]. I wanted to follow up on my [job] interview on [date]. I was curious if you have any updates on the position. I appreciated our conversation and learning more about [business]. I was particularly impressed by your commitment to training and development among the firms I spoke with throughout my job hunt. This growth mindset seemed to be a wonderful match for my professional goals. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. I'm really looking forward to working with you at [company].

  8. The exception • The one time you can reach out in between the interview and the date the hiring manager gave you is if there is a significant change in your situation or portfolio. • If you interview for your dream job and then get an offer from someone else before you hear back, you can write to let them know that you have another offer, but really admire the company and its mission and are hoping to hear from them before deciding. • Perhaps you've authored an essay or filed a patent application that's related to the position you've applied for. You can share the news if the article is accepted for publication or if the patent is granted because it may impact the conversation about your application.

  9. The exception example Greetings, [manager]. I wanted to follow up with you on my [job] interview on [date]. Since we spoke, I've received a job offer from another company. However, I am enthusiastic about the potential of working with you because of your role as a leader in the field of [area] and your commitment to growing the careers of your employees. I'd like to hear if you have any updates on the position as I analyse the offer I'm contemplating.
