  1. What Is General Finishes Stain Blocker? Stain Blocker is a water-based stain-blocking primer. It is a white primer by General Finishes that is used for interior projects. A general finishes stain blocker is a water‐ based primer that is formulated specially to stop extreme stains as well as tannins from bleeding through paint and that cause discoloration. Stain blocker is generally used for protecting the pigmented finishes from dye, stain, and wood tannin bleed-through. The stain blocker by general finishes is perfect to use over an existing finish or raw wood as a base coat. This stain blocker is designed especially for effectiveness and is different from general finishes wood stains, which are oil-based. Such wipe-on stains are designed for the application over raw wood surfaces. Stain Blocker is General Finishes' stain blocking primer that is perfect for interior use only. Application:- Stain blocker by general finishes can be applied by stirring the paint to reincorporate the solids settled to the can bottom before and throughout the process of the application. it must be applied in a well-ventilated area. This stain blocker can be used over an existing finish or on raw wood. For applying this blocker with hand, foam brush, synthetic bristle brush, roller paint, or pad applicator can be used. While before spraying it the paint must be strained through a medium-mesh filter. The spray gun should be kept at a 90° angle, or almost 6-8" from the surface. While to reduce the overspray on narrow surfaces, the fan pattern should be 2-3" wide. It can be applied effectively to cabinet face frames, drawers, or edges with the use of a small cabinet-specific roller or brush, pad. Dry time:-

  2. Stain blocker by general finishes generally takes 1-hour dry-time to touch and 2-hours dry-time to recoat. The viscosity of the stain blocker is also thick. Stain blocker is a white primer with a sophisticated resin system. It also has a typical formulation and does not adhere to melamine. The stain blocker must be applied after removing the dust properly. However, stain blockers by general finishes can be cleaned easily with clean water, a detergent, and scrub. For cleanup, it is easy to rinse all brushes and other equipment with water. But this must be done immediately after the use. For raw wood, stain blocker takes 2-3 hours to dry for the recoat and when there is an existing finish, it takes 3-5 hours. When the humidity level is above 80%, it takes more time to dry perfectly. Used with dark colors:- Typically Stain blocker by general finishes is used with antique white or milk snow white paint. It is not needed while painting with darker colors. This stain blocker should never be mixed with any topcoat or paint stain. The reason behind this is the contamination from other finishes that will cause product failure. For a nice finish, it is essential to apply 2 coats of general finishes stain blocker. The first coat of stain blocker is known for absorbing contaminants in the wood. This causes a change in color during the first application of the coat which is sealed later.
