The growing popularity of smart home technology

More than automation and remote control, the development of smart home technology is focused on automating the experience in the home environment. The global smart home market report, prepared by Strategy Here, is projected to grow from USD 94.30 billion in 2021 to USD 325.48 billion by 2027 and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 22.93% during the forecast period.

  1. The growing popularity of smart home technology More than automation and remote control, the development of smart home technology is focused on automating the experience in the home environment. The global smart home market report, prepared by Strategy Here, is projected to grow from USD 94.30 billion in 2021 to USD 325.48 billion by 2027 and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 22.93% during the forecast period. For more than 30 years, scientists have been attempting to automate and link household appliances. However, the topic of the smart home has sparked a significant amount of public interest within the last 15 years. Increasing environmental consciousness, efforts to achieve energy efficiency within the home, and the growing needs of an aging population are the primary reasons for spreading smart home concepts, according to market research secondary data. Since the early 2000s, the smart home is at the center of public interest due to growing digitalization and the necessity to improve convenience inside our own four walls. What is smart home technology?

  2. Smart home technology is the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) with smart home appliances which operate in coordination with each other according to changing surroundings. These smart home technology share appliance usage data, and external surrounding conditions among themselves and execute actions based on consumers’ preferences without any human intervention. Smart homes are often called ‘Automated homes’ as minimal human intervention is needed in such homes and its central system is capable of taking decisions according to changing external surroundings. Residents of smart homes may use cutting-edge technology like voice assistants such as "Alexa," "Siri," or "Hey Google" to operate smart devices. Benefits of Smart home technology Home appliances that are time-controlled include the coffee maker, lighting, and washing machine. User-programmed operations are started by devices like motion sensors, cameras, shutters, or thermostats. The central control unit, to which numerous smart components are attached and can be managed from a computer, smartphone, or tablet, is the brain of the smart home. For communication or device control, common wireless technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, or Z-Wave are used. The central control unit can also be called a hub or gateway. With greater convenience, smart home technology offer increased security and improved energy efficiency. A smart home thermostat can detect when a window is opened and adjust the temperature if it has WiFi communication with the window contact. When such a thermostat learns from the sensors of other gadgets that no one is home any longer, it immediately turns off the heating. Conclusion The market for smart home technology is being driven by the increasing need for energy-saving and low-emission solutions, according to market research secondary data. As a consequence of escalating global warming and governmental laws, there has been an increasing desire to minimize energy use and carbon emissions. However, there are still concerns about security and privacy as all the actions of consumers are being tracked and data is being shared with the central control unit on a real-time basis.
