  4. COMPUTER ELEMENTS

  5. OS • The Operating system is a system software that controls the operations of the computer system. • An Operating System (OS) is an interface between a computer user and computer hardware. • Some examples include versions of Microsoft Windows ( (like Windows 10,Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP), Apple‘s macOS(formerly OS X), iOS, Chrome OS, BlackBerry Tablet OS, and flavors of the open source operating system Linux.

  6. NEEDS OF OS • It supervise the various activities of a computer system and enables the computer to function in an efficient manner. • It coordinates different hardware and software components of a computer system.

  7. FUNCTIONS OF AN OS • Booting the computer • Managing resources • Detecting and correcting errors.

  8. Modes of OS • Batch processing Batch processing is a technique in which an Operating System collects the programs and data together in a batch before processing starts. All jobs are executed in the “First Come First Serve” nature.

  9. Modes of OS • Multiprogramming Multiprogramming operating system has ability to execute multiple programs with using of only one processor machine . One example is User can use MS-Excel , download apps, transfer data from one point to another point, Firefox or Google Chrome browser, and more at a same time.

  10. Modes of OS • Multiprocessing A multiprocessing operating system (OS) is one in which two or more central processing units (CPUs) control the functions of the computer.

  11. Types of OS
