Omez (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) is a proton pump inhibitor which is used in the treatment of conditions where a reduction of gastric acid secretion is required, such as Duodenal ulcer, Gastric ulcer, NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers, Reflux esophagitis, Symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) i.e. heartburn and regurgitation and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (Pathological hypersecretory condition).

  5. Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) The active ingredient contained in Omez capsules and tablets is Omeprazole Magnesium . Each Omez capsule contains Omeprazole Magnesium (as enteric coated pellets) equivalent to Omeprazole 10 mg or 20 mg. Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Uses of Omez 10 mg and 20 mg Capsules and 40 mg Tablets: Omez (Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) is used to treat certain conditions where there is too much acid in the stomach. It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis. GERD is a condition where the acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus. Sometimes Omeprazole is used in combination with antibiotics (eg, amoxicillin, clarithromycin) to treat ulcers associated with the infection caused by the H. pylori bacteria. Omez is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition where the stomach produces too much acid. Omez is also used to treat dyspepsia, a condition that causes sour stomach, belching, heart burn, or indigestion. In addition, Omeprazole is used to prevent upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding in seriously ill patients. Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Recommended Adult Dosage The adult dose of Omez Capsules Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) for various indications is given below. It is recommended to take Omeprazole capsules in the morning, preferably without food, swallowed whole with half a glass of water. The capsules must not be chewed or crushed. Treatment of Active Duodenal Ulcer: Treatment of Active Duodenal Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks. Some patients may require an additional 4 weeks. Active Benign Gastric Ulcer: Active Benign Gastric Ulcer: 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. Symptomatic GERD: Symptomatic GERD: 20 mg once daily for up to 4 weeks. Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Recommended Adult Dosage Maintenance of Healing of EE due to Acid-Mediated GERD: Maintenance of Healing of EE due to Acid-Mediated GERD: 20 mg once daily. H. pylori Eradication to Reduce the Risk of Duodenal Ulcer Recurrence H. pylori Eradication to Reduce the Risk of Duodenal Ulcer Recurrence Triple Therapy: Triple Therapy: Each medication twice daily for 10 days: Omez 20 mg, Amoxicillin 1000 mg, Clarithromycin 500 mg Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions: Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions: The starting dose is 60 mg once daily(varies with individual patient) as long as clinically indicated. Daily dosages of greater than 80 mg should be administered in divided doses. Dosages up to 120 mg three times daily have been administered. Some patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome have been treated continuously for more than 5 years. Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Contraindications ➔Omez is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Omeprazole Magnesium, any substituted Benzimidazol or any component of the tablet. Hypersensitivity reactions may include anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, bronchospasm, and urticaria. ➔Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), including Omeprazole, are contraindicated in patients receiving Rilpivirine-containing products. Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Storage Instructions Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) have to be stored at controlled room temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) with excursions permitted between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F). Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Warnings Gastric Malignancy: Symptomatic response does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy Atrophic gastritis: has been noted with long-term therapy Clostridium difficile-Associated Diarrhea: PPI therapy may be associated with increased risk of Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea Bone Fracture: Long-term and multiple daily dose PPI therapy may be associated with an increased risk for osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist or spine. Cutaneous and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Mostly cutaneous; new onset or exacerbation of existing disease; discontinue Omeprazole Magnesium capsules and refer to specialist for evaluation Diminished anti-platelet activity of Clopidogrel due to impaired CYP2C19 function by 80 mg Omeprazole (Omez capsules). Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Possible Side Effects Additional Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules (Omez) side effects that were reported with an incidence of 1% or more included acid regurgitation, upper respiratory infection, constipation, dizziness, rash, asthenia, back pain, and cough. Serious side effects of this medicine include: Tubulointerstitial Nephritis, Clostridium difficile-Associated Diarrhea, Bone Fracture, Cutaneous and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B-12) Deficiency, Hypomagnesemia and Fundic Gland Polyps.   15. Omez Capsules (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) Omez Overdosage Reports have been received of overdosage with Omeprazole in humans. Doses ranged up to 2400 mg (120 times the usual recommended clinical dose). Manifestations were variable, but included confusion, drowsiness, blurred vision, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, diaphoresis, flushing, headache, dry mouth, and other adverse reactions similar to those seen in normal clinical experience. Symptoms were transient, and no serious clinical outcome has been reported when Omez (Generic Omeprazole Magnesium Capsules) was taken alone. Omeprazole is extensively protein bound and is, therefore, not readily dialyzable. In the event of Omez capsules overdosage, treatment should be symptomatic and supportive. As with the management of any overdose, the possibility of multiple drug ingestion should be considered. Reproductive studies in rats and rabbits with Omeprazole Magnesium (Omez capsules) and multiple cohort studies in pregnant women with Omeprazole capsules use during the first trimester do not show an increased risk of congenital anomalies or adverse pregnancy outcomes. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of Omeprazole in pregnant women.
