Oil Filtration and Transformer Longevity Ever since inception in 1909, Hering has been a leader in the field of oil purification systems, oil regeneration systems, PCB de-chlorination system and other oil treatments. Besides building plants for oil filtration, they also train clients in the same. Transformer oil filtration system crucial because the oil has a responsibility to transfer the heat developed in the windings and help the instrument to tolerate heat loading and short circuit issues. Any such deterioration in the oil will bring the entire process to an expensive breakdown. In a nutshell, the quality of insulating oil translates to the longevity of the transformer. The oil quality suffers decay and accumulation of pollutants in the span of years and needs due attention. The moisture, sludge and acid contents that affect the oil are removed by separate processes meant to serve the purpose. It might be interesting to note that a study or examination of transformer insulating oil, would reveal the working condition of the transformer itself. The amount of moisture, gases in dissolved form and acidic elements would suggest the next course of action, namely transformer oil filtration system. The transformer is equipped with controllers to avert overheating and is supervised for pressure values with appropriate arrangements. To remove the acidic substances, the heated oil is passed through filters of two sizes namely 1mm and 50 microns, which retain materials of those sizes.The oil then enters an ionic chamber where the acidic components are removed. The oil is now subjected to high pressure in a steel dehydration plant where oil passes through thin layers of copper or aluminum thus eliminating gases accordingly. The average moisture content is 60ppm and is found with traces of dissolved oxygen. In this case, high vacuum transformer oil filtration systems is employed to restore usable condition of the oil.After removing impurities by subjecting oil to high temperature, the oil enters the dehydration and degasification zone where the quality of the oil is restored to a good extent. The discharge chamber pumps out improved oil and the process is repeated few times so that the standard quality of the oil is restored to an extent.
