  1. What is the Difference between CBSE Board and ICSE Board? The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are two of the most prominent education boards in India, but they follow different approaches and have distinct characteristics. Here are some major differences between the ICSE and CBSE boards: Curriculum: ICSE: The ICSE curriculum is more extensive and focuses on providing a broader range of subjects. It includes a balanced mix of subjects, including languages, sciences, mathematics, social sciences, and arts. CBSE: The CBSE curriculum is more streamlined and concentrates on core subjects like languages, mathematics, sciences, and social sciences. The focus is more on theoretical knowledge and application. Medium of Instruction: ICSE: English is the primary medium of instruction for all subjects in ICSE schools. CBSE: While English is the primary medium of instruction in CBSE schools, some CBSE schools in different regions may offer bilingual options. Evaluation and Grading: ICSE: The ICSE board places more emphasis on comprehensive evaluation, practical exams, and project work. The grading system in ICSE is based on marks and is relatively more lenient. CBSE: The CBSE board follows a Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system, which includes periodic assessments, formative and assumptive assessments, and co-scholastic evaluations. The grading system in CBSE is based on a nine-point scale.

  2. Subject Choices: ICSE: Students in ICSE have to study a wide range of subjects, which can be beneficial for those who want to explore different fields before specialising. CBSE: CBSE offers more flexibility in subject choices, especially in higher secondary classes (11th and 12th grades). Students can choose from different streams like Science, Commerce, and Humanities. Focus on English Literature: ICSE: The ICSE board emphasizes English literature and language, requiring students to study various classic works. CBSE: While CBSE also includes English literature, it might not have the same level of emphasis as in ICSE. Board Exams: ICSE: The ICSE board conducts board exams at the end of 10th grade (ICSE) and 12th grade (ISC - Indian School Certificate) for students who choose to continue with ICSE for higher secondary education. CBSE: The CBSE board conducts board exams at the end of 10th grade (AISSE - All India Secondary School Examination) and 12th grade (AISSCE - All India Senior School Certificate Examination). Recognition and Popularity: ICSE: ICSE schools are generally more common in certain regions of India, like the southern states and some metropolitan areas. CBSE: CBSE schools are more widespread across India and have a higher number of affiliated schools. It's essential to note that both boards are recognised by the Indian government and provide quality education. The choice between ICSE and CBSE often depends on personal preferences, future academic goals, and the availability of schools in the local area. Additionally, these boards may have undergone changes or updates after my last update in September 2021, so it's advisable to check with the respective board's official websites or current sources for the most up-to-date information.
